Cubic Odyssey Tips and Tricks

Tips and Tricks | Cubic Odyssey Guide

Cubic Odyssey might be mostly about space exploration and sci-fi survival, but early on it’s more like a glorified to-do list in cube form.

Here are some solid tips and tricks to help you along the way.

Don’t build a permanent base on Bardwell

Bardwell I is the tutorial planet. You’ll outgrow it fast.

There are only 2–3 ore tiers on this planet, and a ton of key upgrades are locked behind materials you simply can’t find here. Go ahead and set up a tiny starter base to get through the ship repairs and initial quests, but don’t invest in a big build.

Once you unlock space travel, move on. You’ll thank yourself later.

Use QB for resource scanning (but not always)

QB-1 can scan for nearby materials by tier or type. He’s good when you need something specific, like gold, but don’t rely on him alone. His scanning range is limited.

Instead, look for:

  • Caves and meteor craters for exposed ores

  • Pirate outposts and ruins for hidden ore veins and loot

  • Ancient structures for high-tier gear, mods, and crafting mats

These structures often require access keys, but they give better loot than anything you can craft early on.

Don’t waste mods on trash gear

Every suit, scanner, or weapon can have up to four mod slots, but mods aren’t easy to come by. And once you install them, they’re stuck unless you destroy the whole item to recover one.

Only mod gear you know you’ll keep for a while. If you're still using Tier 1 stuff, hold off.

You’ll find higher-tier gear pretty fast just by exploring or looting enemy camps.

Learn the ship teleport trick, but use it sparingly

If you’re more than 50 meters from your ship, you’ll get the option to teleport to it. That costs 150 energy, or half a full battery. Early on, that’s a big deal.

Try to park your ship near your base but out of danger. Then glide back or walk rather than teleporting unless you really need to.

Once you’ve got energy to spare, go wild.

Shift-click trick for fast inventory management

Dragging items back and forth is slow.

Double Shift-click quickly moves items between your inventory and storage.

This isn't explained in-game anywhere, but it works and it saves time, especially when offloading loot after a big run.

Do the right fetch quests

Not all town quests are worth your time.

Bad quests:

  • Delivering ores (you’ll need those yourself)

  • Gathering things like seashells or snails (slow and not worth the payout)

Good quests:

  • Kill missions (marked with a blue ! on the map)

These give immediate payouts without having to return to the quest giver.

Money matters early, especially if you want to buy keys for locked chests or trade-in gear.

Don’t recycle gear you can sell

Extra weapons, suits, and junk mods can be sold at space stations to specific vendors.

Sure, you can recycle them into cores, but selling them gives you cubits, which are more useful early on. Save the recycling for gear with no sell value or completely worn-out junk.

Repair and claim other ships

Scattered around space are broken-down ships. You can scan and repair them using your own materials, then claim them for your fleet.

As of now, you can’t sell these ships (and you can’t sell your starter ship either), but you can switch to a new one and keep your progress going.

Keep a stash of spare parts on hand, just in case you find one worth fixing.

Building tips: cubes are picky

When placing stairs or ramps, you won’t be able to attach blocks cleanly to the back or side of them. And no, they don’t blend together nicely like they do in Minecraft.

If you want cleaner builds, try placing filler blocks around stairs before locking in your layout. Also, ramps can be rotated onto their sides if you want more custom shapes, but don’t expect clean texturing.

It’s functional, not pretty.

Final Blurb

Cubic Odyssey makes you work for your upgrades, so anything that saves time or energy is a win. Skip bad quests, stash your mods, and don’t sink hours building a dream base on a planet you’ll ditch in 30 minutes.

If the game feels like a space chore list, well, at least now you’ll be a little more efficient with your cosmic errands.

FAQ

Q: Can you remove mods from gear?

Only one. Removing a mod destroys the gear and all other mods on it, so don’t waste high-tier mods on early gear.

Q: Where can you sell gear?

At vendors on space stations. Look for NPCs that offer trade options—not all of them do.

Q: Can you sell your ship?

No, not in the current version. You can repair and claim new ships, but not sell them.

Q: Are access cards worth buying?

Yes. Many of the best early-game items are locked behind access chests in ruins and outposts. Stock up when you can.

Q: Is hunger or thirst a thing in this game?

No, but you do have to manage batteries constantly. Everything from scanning to mining drains energy. Always carry spares.
