In the Oratores quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you’ll need to chase down Cardinal Pozzo after a conversation takes a sudden turn. He will quickly escape on horseback, and if you’re not prepared, you’ll struggle to catch him.

Here’s how to make sure you can catch the Cardinal with the right horse, gear, and skills.

Step 1: Get a Fast Horse

If your horse isn’t fast enough, you’ll need to reload an earlier save and buy a better one. A horse with 50+ speed is recommended—anything slower will leave you far behind.

Best Horse for the Chase

  • Buy Khartoum from the stud farm west-northwest of Maleshov.

  • Khartoum’s base stats: 53 speed, 210 stamina.

  • With Knight’s Horseshoes and a Sharukan Bridle, Khartoum’s stats improve to 58 speed and 227 stamina, making him perfect for this chase.

  • If you can, equip Knight’s Spurs for an extra speed boost.

Step 2: Improve Your Horsemanship

There are some Horsemanship perks that make a big difference. Try to unlock these before the chase:

  • Headstart (Level 8) – Double-tap the sprint key to accelerate faster.

  • Ride Like the Wind (Level 10) – 5% slower stamina consumption.

  • Road Runner (Level 10) – 5% speed boost on roads.

  • Final Stretch (Level 12) – Regain stamina when running low.

If you’ve reached higher levels, the Level 2 versions of Ride Like the Wind (Level 16) and Final Stretch (Level 18) are even better, but not required.

Step 3: Stay on the Main Road

  • Ignore the Cardinal and his guards. They may take detours but will always return to the main road.

  • Stick to the fastest route on the road, avoiding obstacles or unnecessary turns.

  • After about 1 minute and 5 seconds, if you’re close enough, the game will trigger a cutscene at a fork in the path where you catch him.

Final Blurb

By following these steps, you’ll easily catch the Cardinal, and as a bonus, you’ll now own one of the fastest horses in the game. Double win!
