He Is Coming Kingmaker Mode Guide (Multiplayer Boss Mode)

Written by Michael Owen | He is Coming

Kingmaker Mode in He Is Coming turns your final build into a boss and lets you fight others’ builds in return.

This mode mixes every enemy from both Woodland and Swampland and lets you choose item sets before the run. It’s optional but offers the most replay value and reward depth that the game has to offer.

What Is Kingmaker Mode

Kingmaker is an optional mode that uses community-sourced bosses made from players’ winning builds. After beating a run, your character gets saved and becomes a future boss for someone else.

During Kingmaker runs, you'll face these player-made bosses as your main challenge. Each one appears after normal fights and behaves like an advanced version of late-game enemies. They use real traits, items, and effects based on actual builds.

No two runs are alike.

How the Mode Works

You must first pick 3 of 6 item bundles. You get 3 Woodland bundles and 3 Swampland bundles. Choose wisely… these set the foundation for your build.

Then, begin the run. The mode includes every normal enemy type from both biomes. Bosses, however, are entirely randomized and based on player-submitted builds.

Your goal is to beat at least 5 bosses. Once you do, you earn a crown.

Crowns and Unlocks

Each win in Kingmaker gives you a crown. These crowns are used to unlock new character skins.

Skins are purely cosmetic and do not affect gameplay, but if you want to flex or complete everything, this is the only way to earn them.

Kingmaker Mode Tips

Focus on multi-use item synergies

Since you don’t know what bosses you’ll face, build around items that scale off each other. Thorns, regen, and poison all pair well with food and acid effects.

Don’t skip trash mobs

You’ll need strong builds fast. Normal fights drop vital loot and restore health or focus. Avoid skipping unless you’re already maxed.

Expect armor, regeneration, and status spam

Player bosses often stack armor or use heal loops. Bring items that remove armor or prevent healing like Acid, Flame Burst, or anti-heal triggers.

Use food fusion early

Grab a cauldron if you can. Strong fused food like Vampiric Wine or Spiny Chestnut lets you snowball. Bonus if you find a honeycomb.

Don’t rush crowns

You only need 5 boss kills per run to earn a crown. If your build is weak, it’s better to stabilize and end the run early than to push for more.

Keep an eye on your own boss uploads

Your own Kingmaker builds may show up in others’ runs. If you're losing often, try tweaking your late-game setup before uploading again.

Final Blurb

Kingmaker Mode in He Is Coming mixes up player creativity with roguelike challenge. If you’re looking for harder bosses, unlockable skins, or more replay value, this is the mode to try.

But if you prefer solo PvE, you can safely ignore it without missing core content.
