If you’re stuck on 4-48 then you’ve come to the right place. This fight is infamous for slamming a giant wall between you and the rest of the game.

The trick isn’t damage, it’s learning how to not get your entire squad turned into shrubbery. Let’s break down how to survive it and defeat 4-48.

What Makes 4-48 So Rough

4-48 is an absolute beast. She’ll trap your sinners in trees if you let too much Bloom stack, then punish you with a mass AoE that wipes your team.

To win, your goals are simple:

  • Keep Bloom stacks low.

  • Kill the flower minions when they spawn.

  • Save your strongest attacks for the Duel phase.

  • Don’t panic when the first two turns feel like a mess.

Phase 1: Survive the Bloom Bomb

This phase is all about dodging Bloom stacks. If a sinner gets 5 stacks, they turn into a tree. You really don’t want trees.

  • Watch out for “On Use: Inflict Blooming” skills. These don’t even have to hit to ruin your day.

  • Use defensive skills to offset Dongbaek’s evades, especially if you have an open slot.

  • Restart the fight if the first two turns go badly. Early Bloom stacking almost always spirals.

Letting multiple sinners get tree’d early makes the rest of the fight basically unwinnable.

Phase 2: Flower Fight

Around Turn 3, Dongbaek will summon four little bushes. These are your key to recovery.

  • Clash with the bushes and kill them. You gain +5 SP per kill for your whole team.

  • Try to eliminate all 4 bushes each time they spawn. That’s 20 SP and the only real way to bounce back from early Blooming.

  • Don’t ignore Dongbaek’s main attacks. Many of them are AoE or still inflict Blooming. You’ll need to clash them too.

On Turn 5, she uses a mass AoE that hits harder for every bush left alive. Kill the bushes first, then use a strong EGO or tanky sinner to clash with the mass attack.

Failing that clash is game over.

Phase 3: Duel Mode

After her mass attack, Dongbaek enters the Duel phase. Her speed drops to 1, and she starts using Declared Duel and three massive guard skills.

This phase is simple but brutal:

  • One sinner (your “duelist”) will clash her attacks for 3 turns.

  • The rest of your team is locked in tree jail.

  • If your duelist wins all 3 clashes, Dongbaek staggers, and your party is freed with a massive SP boost.

  • If you lose, she keeps going and things can spiral fast.

If Yi Sang is the one in the duel and wins, you get a 30% damage buff for your entire team. If he loses, she gets a buff instead, so pick your fighter carefully.

Team and Setup Tips

  • Uptie III is a must. If your sinners aren’t upgraded enough to unlock their Skill 3, you’ll have a rough time.

  • Consider running one or two less units. The game redistributes their skill slots to the first sinners deployed. This gives your best units more actions in the early turns.

  • Use sinners with slash damage and Pride sin as those perform best here.

  • EGO skills with low resource cost and good SP gain are ideal. Don’t use EGO that need four sin types unless you’ve got a consistent setup.

If you’re really stuck, use support N-Corp Sinclair or Liu Ishmael. Their synergy with this fight is well-known.

Snagharpoon is also a clutch tool to make Dongbaek act later in the turn order before her mass attack.

Final Blurb

4-48 is one of the game’s biggest reality checks. You don’t need brute force, you need to manage mechanics, avoid status effects, and hande fights in pieces.

If your team’s not Uptie III and around level 35, you’re making things harder than they need to be.

You don’t need god-tier units to beat it, just a solid duelist and a clear plan to deal with Bloom.

Good luck dodging the forest.

FAQ

Q: How do I stop my sinners from turning into trees?

Keep Bloom stacks below 5 by winning clashes and avoiding skills that inflict Bloom on use. Kill bushes to boost sanity.

Q: When does Dongbaek use the mass attack?

Turn 5. The damage scales based on how many bushes are left alive. Kill all four before clashing with her.

Q: What’s the best EGO to use in this fight?

Anything with a low sin cost and good clash power. Use EGO to win duels or clash the mass AoE, not during normal turns.

Q: Is there a cheese strategy with Burn or Deluge?

Not really for this one. The mechanics here are too specific. Burn comps work better in other fights.

Q: Should I use fewer sinners?

Yes. Running 5 instead of 7 gives your best units more actions during early turns, which helps with SP gain and clash control.
