Review: Beyond Citadel

Beyond Citadel is everything we hoped it would be and more. If you loved the first game then you’re in for a treat. This sequel takes all the best parts of its predecessor and cranks them up to eleven, delivering a polished and immersive experience that’s hard to put down.

Full disclosure in that this was one we were greatly looking forward to so we will try not to spoil too much.

Gunplay Like No Other

One of the highlights of Beyond Citadel is its unique weapon mechanics. Reloading isn’t just a button press like in more games, but rather a whole process that feels incredibly tactile. Each weapon handles differently, and mastering them feels pretty darn rewarding. Whether you’re manually ejecting bullets or loading rounds into a chamber, the attention to detail is seriously unmatched. The combat is fast, brutal, and ridiculously satisfying, with gore effects that aren’t over the top.

A World With Some Depth

The story builds on the foundation of the first game, diving deeper into Martyr’s journey through a post-apocalyptic world. The lore is dense, with layers of religious symbolism, cybernetic horrors, and personal tragedy. The addition of NPCs and hub areas adds a welcome sense of life to the game and makes it feel more than just a series of missions that you go on. Collectibles and hidden lore entries make exploration worthwhile and we were grateful for a glimpse even deeper into the BTS.

Better Level Design

The level design has stepped up significantly. While the core gameplay revolves around intense combat arenas, there’s more variety this time around. Verticality, environmental themes, and hidden secrets keep you on your toes. The RPG elements, like skill points and customizable difficulty settings gave us the freedom to shape our experience in a brand new way.

Art and Atmosphere

The art style is a stunning mix between anime-inspired character designs and gritty, dystopian backdrops. The visuals are great, with every detail from character sprites to environmental textures oozing personality. The sound design goes oh so well with the visuals beautifully with weapons that roar and enemies that scream in ways that pull you further into the chaos.

Final Blurb

Beyond Citadel is 100% a masterpiece of the genre and you can tell it was crafted with love and passion. Between its intricate gun mechanics to its dare we say hauntingly beautiful world, this sequel improves on every aspect of the original. Regardless of whether or not you were already a fan of boomer shooters, dark lore, or just blowing stuff up in style, Beyond Citadel ertainly delivers.

Don’t think twice about getting this game! It is worth every second
