Understanding Damage Blocked in Marvel Rivals

In Marvel Rivals, "Damage Blocked" refers to the amount of incoming damage that a player prevents using shields or defensive abilities (like shields in Overwatch); particularly important for Vanguards. Here’s a quick explanation on what it is and how it works.

How Damage Blocking Works

When a hero activates a shield or defensive skill, any damage that would have been dealt to them or their allies is reduced or nullified. The game tracks this mitigated damage as "Damage Blocked” (aka damage they would have otherwise taken)

Heroes with Shielding Abilities

Several heroes in Marvel Rivals possess abilities that can block damage. Here are some examples:

  • Doctor Strange
Uses mystical shields to protect himself and allies, absorbing significant damage during battles.

  • Magneto
Generates magnetic force fields that can block incoming attacks, providing defense for the team.

  • Hulk
Deploys a Gamma Shield to absorb damage, contributing to the team's overall defense.

  • Peni Parker
Piloting the SP//dr suit, Peni can deploy energy shields and mines, giving protection and area control during engagements.

  • Thor
Creates barriers with his hammer and withstands enemy attacks.

Importance of Damage Blocked

Accumulating a high "Damage Blocked" score shows a good use of shielding abilities (generally speaking) and that you’re a contributing member of the team.

Outside of that it’s just a number! Don’t sweat it too much and play your best.
