Kuji-Kiri might sound like a sushi order, but in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it’s Naoe’s way of unlocking memories — and her inner trauma. These are meditation spots scattered around Japan, where Naoe can reflect, wrestle with the past, and remember how to be a proper shinobi. Oh, and you’ll also get Knowledge Points, which are basically the keys to unlocking her skill trees.
What Is Kuji-Kiri?
Kuji-Kiri are mini-games where you match button presses in a circle, while the screen fades to white. The game doesn’t want you to cheat by looking.
Complete any 4 Kuji-Kiri to unlock Naoe’s memories. It doesn’t matter which ones — any four locations will do the trick.
After that, Kuji-Kiri still gives you Knowledge Points, but no more trips down memory lane.
What Happens in Naoe’s Memories?
Each memory gives backstory on Naoe and her dad, Nagato. You get a grappling hook, learn stealth mechanics, and see what life was like before the prologue went nuclear. Here’s the quick breakdown:
Memory 1: Naoe’s first kill in battle. Big feels. Her dad is protective. She ignores him.
Memory 2: She learns to meditate (yes, Kuji-Kiri again) and finds a scroll that boosts her training.
Memory 3: Gets her grappling hook, sneaks through a massacre, learns to eavesdrop. Dad invites her to an important meeting.
Memory 4: Dad wants to talk about Mom, but—uh oh—Nobunaga’s coming. Naoe duels, infiltrates a castle, and learns that peace is cancelled.
Where to Find Kuji-Kiri (Quick Start)
Hideout: There’s one right next to the waterfall. Easy win.
Southeast of Hideout: Near Kawachi Lost Pagoda. Just follow the question mark.
East of Tennoji Temple: Close to Eboshigata Hachiman Shrine.
Rolling Glen: You’ll probably stumble upon this while exploring early on.
