Astro Bot Wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024

Astro Bot won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024, beating out tough competition, including Balatro, Black Myth: Wukong, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

The award was presented by Swen Vincke, the director of Baldur's Gate 3, which won last year. During his speech, he said the award changed his life. He also joked, "If you're told to wrap it up, you can always come back and talk for three more minutes."

Team Asobi Thanks Fans and PlayStation

Nicolas Doucet, the head of Team Asobi, accepted the award. He thanked his team and PlayStation for believing in Astro Bot. He also shared how playing Super Mario Bros as a child inspired him and gave a shout-out to 30 years of PlayStation history, which influenced the game's design.

Astro Bot's Big Night

Astro Bot didn’t just win Game of the Year—it won four awards in total! It also picked up prizes for Best Family Game and Best Game Direction.

Other big winners included:

  • Metaphor: ReFantazio: Best Narrative, Best Art Direction, and Best RPG.

  • Balatro: Best Indie and Best Debut Indie.

  • A new Elden Ring game called Nightreign

  • Okami 2

  • Naughty Dog’s new game, Intergalactic.
