Another one bites the dust. Japanese studio A,I—known for cranking out handheld Super Robot Wars games and even lending a hand on some Bomberman titles—is officially gone. The company filed for bankruptcy back on March 10, 2025, quietly noted in Japan’s government gazette and now confirmed by the Bankruptcy Information Center.
If you’re wondering, no—this isn’t the same dev team behind Super Robot Wars Y. That’s B.B. Studio, which is still alive and kicking.
A,I had been around since 1990, doing behind-the-scenes dev work for big names like Bandai Namco and Hudson Soft. Their credits include nearly 15 Super Robot Wars games, a few Bomberman titles (like Bomberman Hero), and their last major effort: Full Metal Panic! Fight! Who Dares Wins in 2018.
There’s no public word on what exactly pushed them under, but longtime fans in Japan were hit hard by the news. With B.B. Studio gearing up for more Super Robot Wars, some were hoping A,I might tag back in for another project. That hope’s out the window now.
Former A,I developer Norio Okubo spoke up on X (Twitter) after the news dropped:
“This was where I spent more than half my life as a game developer. Our main client Hudson disappeared first, and now our company itself is gone. I don’t normally drink, but I think I’ll drink in memory of A,I today.”
No robots, no bombs, just another small dev swallowed by time.
