Battlefront II Shatters Records Almost a Decade Later
Written by Andrew Hamel
Star Wars Battlefront 2 just hit a massive new record on Steam, peaking at about 28,000 concurrent players today (June 21st, 2025). It’s the highest the game has ever reached since launching on the platform.
This marks the second big population spike in recent months. A few weeks ago back in May, the player count climbed near 19,000. Now, it’s smashed through that, riding momentum from multiple Star Wars tie-ins and deep sales.
Why the Sudden Surge?
Several things may have contributed to bring players back (or even new players in for the first time):
The complete edition was added to Game Pass
Steam had a major discount (and is, as of this writing, still 90% off)
Fortnite featured a Star Wars event
The Revenge of the Sith anniversary re-release
Ongoing hype from Andor and other shows
The game’s long recovery arc also helped. After its 2017 launch controversy, nearly 8 years ago at this point, Battlefront II got major updates, overhauled progression, and removed all loot boxes.
It’s been steadily regaining goodwill since.
Strong Community Push
Steam forums, Discord servers, Reddit threads, and other online communities have lit up after the 28K milestone was hit. Some players said they hadn’t seen servers this active in years. Others are now pushing harder for a Battlefront III (I so desperately wish…), saying this is proof the demand is still there.
Final Blurb
For a game that nearly crashed on launch, Battlefront II’s comeback has been steady... and today, it broke through a new ceiling.
With this kind of player energy, there’s no doubt the galaxy still wants more.
