Go Fish No Fish Bug Fix – Oblivion Remastered Guide

If you're stuck on the "Go Fish" quest in Oblivion Remastered and finding no fish anywhere in Lake Rumare, you're dealing with a relatively common bug in the game. The quest says there are plenty of Rumare Slaughterfish, but when you show up… Nothing.

Here’s are some ways you might be able to fix the "Go Fish no fish" bug and finally complete the quest.

Walk the Shore, Don’t Swim

The fish rarely appear in open water. Instead, they often spawn along the shoreline near the quest marker, sometimes even flopping on land. Walk the edges of the lake and watch for water ripples or jumping animations. Most players find more fish on foot than in the water.

Wait and Fast Travel Trick

If no fish are spawning at all:

  • Fast travel far away (like to Bruma)

  • Wait 24–72 in-game hours

  • Travel back to Weye and check again

This can reset fish spawns if they got stuck in terrain or failed to appear. Be sure it’s daytime, ideally after 9 AM. Some players report fish don’t spawn at night.

Use Detect Life or Look for Bubbles

Spells like Detect Life can help you spot underwater enemies. If you’re swimming and see no signs of life, look for small bubbles on the surface of the lake. These often mark where a Rumare Slaughterfish is swimming.

Don’t Collect Too Many Scales

If you already picked up more than 12 Rumare Slaughterfish Scales, the quest may break. Only 12 count toward the quest, and grabbing extras can prevent turn-in. If you're on PC, you can attempt to fix this with:

player.removeitem 00185FE2 X

Replace “X” with however many extras you have.

Then kill a fresh fish under the marker to reset the quest step.

Final Blurb

The “Go Fish, no fish” situation is pretty annoying… Broken spawns, vague markers, and a grumpy fisherman who won’t take your scales. But if you stick to the shoreline, watch for bubbles, and don’t overload your inventory, you’ll get your waterbreathing ring and be done with it.

FAQ

Why can’t I find any fish in the Go Fish quest?
Fish often spawn along the lake’s edge, not in the middle. They may also fail to spawn if you have too many scales or if the quest bugged.

How many Rumare Slaughterfish Scales do I need?

Exactly 12. Any more than that can break the quest and prevent turn-in.

Can I use regular Slaughterfish scales?
No. Only Rumare Slaughterfish Scales count for this quest.

How do I reset the fish spawn?
Fast travel away from the lake, wait 24–72 hours, and come back during the day. That usually resets it.

What if I’m on console and can’t use commands?
Try only looting the fish after the quest marker moves. Avoid killing extra ones. If all else fails, reload a save from before you had 12+ scales.
