How to End a Run in Heroes of Hammerwatch 2

So, you’ve hit that point in your run where you’re debating whether to press on or cut your losses. Heroes of Hammerwatch 2 doesn’t make quitting straightforward, but here’s what you can do.

1. Save and Quit (The Smart Move)

If the run is taking longer than expected, you can save and quit to pick up later:

  • Pause the game.

  • Select Save and Quit.

  • Come back later to resume exactly where you left off.

Important Note:

Do NOT hit "Abandon Run." That’s just the game’s way of saying, “Fine, but pay the chapel tax like everyone else.”

2. Take the Loss (Strategic Failure)

If you’re done and just want to return to town, you can let your character go out in style (or not). Dying sends you back to town but comes with:

  • A 40% loss of resources, called a “donation” to the chapel.

  • The realization that you’re now funding imaginary renovations.

Pro Tip: Upgrade the chapel in town to reduce how much you lose when you die. It won’t make it painless, but it’s better than losing half your haul.

3. Pray for the Thunderbird (Literally)

If you’re lucky, the Thunderbird might appear during your run. This bird lets you send half your resources back to town.

  • Good News: You save some loot!

  • Bad News: The bird is random, so you can’t rely on it.

  • Worse News: It will always show up when you don’t really need it.

Why Can’t I Just Teleport Back?

Many players dream of a post-boss teleport option, but Heroes of Hammerwatch 2 isn’t about convenience. The game’s rogue-lite mechanics force you to take risks. It’s all part of the challenge: risk your loot or push forward for more rewards.

Final Blurb

Ending a run isn’t about making it easy but rather making a tough call.

  • Save and Quit if you plan to return later.

  • Sacrifice some loot if you’re ready to head back.

  • Pray to the RNG gods for the Thunderbird.

And remember: every run is a lesson. Sometimes that lesson is, "I should’ve upgraded the chapel."
