How to Fix Roblox Error Code 280 — Out of Date Version

If you’re seeing Error Code 280: Your version of Roblox may be out of date. Please update Roblox and try again — don’t panic. This usually happens when your app version is too old or something got corrupted. Below are quick, easy fixes for every device.

Why does Error 280 happen?

Your Roblox app version doesn’t match what the servers expect.
Old app = Roblox won’t let you play.
It can also happen if your app’s cache or data got messed up.

Fixes by Device

Windows 10 & 11

  • Uninstall Roblox

    • Open Settings > Apps > Apps & features.

    • Find Roblox. Uninstall it.

  • Clear App Data

    • Press Win+R, type CMD, press Enter.

    • Type: cd AppData\Local then press Enter.

    • Type: rmdir /s Roblox and press Enter.

    • Type Y to confirm.

  • Restart and Reinstall Roblox

  • Try a different internet connection if problems continue.

MacOS (10.13 High Sierra or newer)

  1. Uninstall Roblox

    • Drag Roblox to Trash or press Command+Delete.

  2. Check Permissions

    • Apple Menu > Privacy & Security > allow Roblox.

  3. Reinstall Roblox

  4. Switch internet connection if needed.

iOS (12 or newer)

  1. Restart your device

  2. Force close Roblox

    • Swipe up to view open apps.

    • Swipe Roblox off the screen.

  3. Reinstall Roblox

    • Delete the app, then grab it again from the App Store.

  4. Check Date/Time

    • Settings > General > Date & Time — turn on Set Automatically.

  5. Try another Wi-Fi or data connection if issues remain.

Android (OS 6 or newer)

  1. Restart your device

  2. Force close Roblox

    • Open Recent Apps, swipe Roblox away.

  3. Reinstall Roblox

  4. Check Date/Time in Settings > Date & Time.

  5. Switch networks to test.

Amazon Fire OS

  1. Force stop Roblox

    • Settings > Apps & Games > Manage All Applications > Roblox > Force Stop.

  2. Restart your device

  5. Test a different internet connection.

ChromeOS

  1. Update Chrome OS (if needed)

  2. Force close Roblox

    • Chrome browser > More Tools > Task Manager > End Process.

  3. Restart your Chromebook

  6. Change internet connection if issues continue.
