How to Get the Emperor’s Sword in Oblivion Remastered

You can get the Emperor’s sword in Oblivion Remastered. It takes a weird trick early in the game, but if you do it right, his blade will drop to the ground and become lootable. Normally, trying to take it gets you scolded by the Blades, but this method lets you bypass that.

Pick the Lover Sign at the Start

When Uriel Septim asks what sign marked your birth, choose The Lover. This gives you a special ability called Lover’s Kiss, which paralyzes someone for 10 seconds. You only get to use it once per day, but that’s all you’ll need.

Follow Him Until You’re Told to Stay

Go through the tutorial as normal until one of the Blades tells you:

“Wait here with the Emperor.”

This is your cue. Stick near the Emperor, but don’t follow too close once the guards move on. They’re not babysitting you anymore.

Make Him Hostile Without Killing Him

Move a few steps away so you’re not directly in his face. Then, cast a weak offensive spell at him. Something like Flare works. This will make the Emperor turn hostile… And yes, he’ll try to fight you. That’s what we want.

Use Lover’s Kiss to Drop Him

Now hit him with Lover’s Kiss. This will paralyze him mid-rant. While he’s on the ground, quickly open a conversation with him before he finishes his speech:

“I can go no further. You alone must stand against the Prince of Destruction…”

He’ll finish talking while paralyzed, then die. And the best part? His sword will be lying on the floor, free for the taking. The guards won’t stop you because he technically died while hostile.

Final Blurb

Stealing a dying Emperor’s sword mid-monologue isn’t exactly noble, but hey it is free loot. Just remember to use that Lover’s Kiss wisely. You only get one shot.

FAQ

Can you really get the Emperor’s sword in Oblivion Remastered?
Yes, but only by using a specific trick during the tutorial. You have to paralyze the Emperor before he finishes his final speech.

Why does the Lover sign matter?
The Lover sign gives you the Lover’s Kiss ability, which paralyzes enemies for 10 seconds. It’s the key to pulling this off.

What happens if I try to loot his sword normally?
The Blades will stop you and block you from taking it. That’s why the trick relies on making the Emperor hostile before he dies.

Will this mess up the main quest?
Nope. As long as you let him finish talking during the paralysis, the quest will continue like normal. The game doesn’t care that you dropped him mid-speech.

Can I do this with any sign other than the Lover?
No. Without Lover’s Kiss, there’s no reliable way to paralyze him at the exact moment you need to. This only works if you picked the Lover sign.
