Lockpicking in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is back and as tricky as ever. If you're planning on living your best medieval rogue life—peeking into places you shouldn’t and liberating items that aren’t technically yours—you’ll need to master the art of lockpicking. Here’s a simple guide to get you started, with some tips and tricks to make life easier.

How to Lockpick

When you approach a locked object and select the lockpick option, the game will open the lockpicking interface. Here’s how it works:

  • The Lock Interface:
You’ll see a circular lock with a focus point you can move around. Your job is to find the sweet spot, which will:

    • Glow gold when you’re over it.

    • Enlarge slightly when you’re near it.

  • Rotating the Lock:

    • Keep the focus point in the sweet spot while you rotate the lock.

    • If you stray from the sweet spot, the lockpick will start to break.

  • Success:
Rotate the lock fully to complete the pick. Easy locks might only require a small rotation, but harder locks could demand a full 360-degree spin.

  • Be Quiet:
Lockpicks breaking make noise, which can alert nearby NPCs. So, don’t try this with an audience unless you want trouble.

Lock Difficulties

Locks come in five levels of difficulty:

  • Very Easy

  • Easy

  • Medium

  • Hard

  • Very Hard

If a lock is above your skill level, you’ll get a warning. For difficult locks, the sweet spot shrinks to nearly pixel size, so precision is key. You’ll also have to rotate the lock further for higher difficulties.

Tips to Make Lockpicking Easier

1. Potions Help:

Drink a potion of Quickfinger to temporarily boost your Thievery skill. This can make tough locks more manageable.

2. Invest in Skills:

These perks will make lockpicking a breeze:

  • Locksmith (Craftsmanship, Level 12): Your Thievery skill counts as 3 levels higher, and you can craft extra lockpicks from scrap iron.

  • Silent Fiddler (Thievery, Level 6): Almost no noise while lockpicking, and broken lockpicks are 75% quieter.

  • Tool Master (Thievery, Level 8): Lockpicks last 15% longer, and you’ll recover one when you successfully pick a lock after breaking it.

3. Practice on Easy Locks:

Before tackling harder locks, build your confidence on easier ones.

Where to Get More Lockpicks

  1. Buy from Blacksmiths:
Most blacksmiths have lockpicks for sale. Stock up when you can, but they’re pricey early on.

  2. Forge Your Own:
Smithing weapons and tools can yield lockpicks, especially with the Locksmith skill. Not only is smithing a good way to earn groschen, but it’s also a consistent way to replenish your lockpick stash.

With this guide, you’re ready to unlock Bohemia’s secrets (and everyone else’s valuables). Just don’t get caught—because explaining why you’re fiddling with someone’s treasure chest in the middle of the night probably won’t go over well.
