To unlock characters in Mario Kart World, you either need to finish certain Grand Prix cups or get lucky with the Kamek item during races. Some unlocks are straightforward, others feel more like a magic trick gone wrong.

Unlocking Characters from Grand Prix Cups
The easy route is playing Grand Prix mode and finishing specific cups. You do not need to place first... just complete the cup.
