MindsEye Free Roam Guide: How It Works and What You Can Do

Written by Jason B.

Free Roam in MindsEye is only available after you finish the main story. Once the credits roll, a new option shows up that lets you explore Redrock without being locked into missions. It’s a separate game mode that opens up once the campaign is fully completed.

You do not keep playing as Jacob Diaz. In Free Roam, you control a new character called the Preacher, who exists in Redrock after the story ends. It’s not a continuation of Jacob’s arc but more of a sandbox experience inside the same world.

You Play as the Preacher, Not Jacob

Once you start Free Roam, you’ll notice that Jacob is gone. The story is over, and instead, you control the Preacher. This new character doesn’t come with a detailed backstory or narrative, but he’s fully playable and lets you explore the city without the usual limits.

You Can Explore the Full City

Redrock is open in Free Roam. You can drive through downtown, cruise into the suburbs, or wander into the outskirts. There are no mission triggers or cutscenes to worry about. The city is just there to be explored at your own pace.

Gang Fights Still Happen

Even though the story is done, you’ll still run into gangs around Redrock. These aren’t scripted missions, but you can engage them in combat. It gives Free Roam something to do besides just sightseeing.

You Can Call Your Car

There’s a car summon system in Free Roam. If you’re stuck on foot, you can just call in your car and it’ll come to you. This lets you move around faster and makes exploration more practical.

There’s No Main Objective

Unlike the campaign, Free Roam doesn’t have a goal or progression path. It’s more of a “see what’s going on in the world” type of mode. You’ll find ambient details and leftover events happening around the map, but no missions or story beats.

More Features Are Planned

At launch, Free Roam is fairly light. However, Build A Rocket Boy has confirmed they plan to expand it with future updates. This could include multiplayer support, more activities, or even new areas and enemies.

It’s Single Player Only (For Now)

Free Roam is solo at launch. There’s no co-op or multiplayer option yet, but the developers have hinted they might add that later. For now, it’s just you and the city.

You Can Still Use Build Tools

If you’re playing on PC, the Build tools work in Free Roam too. You can mess around with assets, spawn items, or try out custom rules. It won’t affect the main story and gives you extra freedom to create or test ideas inside the open world.

It’s a Post-Campaign Sandbox

This isn’t like GTA or Saints Row where you can free roam from the beginning. MindsEye keeps it locked until you’ve finished the game. Once you do, Free Roam becomes a way to keep playing in the world without the pressure of missions or story.

Final Blurb

Free Roam in MindsEye is basically your reward for finishing the game. You unlock a new character, get to drive around Redrock without interruptions, and brawl with gangs on your own terms.

It’s not full of side missions yet, but updates are planned. For now, it’s a quiet, solo sandbox that lets you enjoy the world without the story getting in the way.
