Oblivion Remastered How Pick Locks

Breaking into places you don’t belong is a proud Elder Scrolls tradition. But in Oblivion Remastered, you’ll need more than bad intentions… You’ll need lockpicks and a steady hand.

Here’s how to actually get into those locked doors without snapping every pick in Cyrodiil.

How to Get Lockpicks in Oblivion Remastered

  • Shady Sam: The MVP of early-game crime. You’ll find him lurking outside the northwest wall of the Imperial City. He sells 30 lockpicks at a time and restocks daily. No questions asked.

  • Join the Thieves Guild: Get caught stealing, ask a beggar about rumors, and congratulations — you're in. Guild fences will sell you plenty of lockpicks.

  • Loot Bandits and Chests: Dungeons, caves, and unlucky bandits often carry a few spare picks. Exploring pays off.

  • Join the Dark Brotherhood: If theft feels too gentle, commit murder. Their merchants also sell lockpicks, though not as many.

How Lockpicking Works

Oblivion’s lockpicking isn’t like Skyrim’s relatively easy twisting game. In this game it’s pretty much all about timing (and managing your frustration).

  • You’ll see several tumblers at the top of the lock.

  • Push each tumbler up by flicking your mouse or stick.

  • When a tumbler floats up slowly, that’s your cue. Tap to lock it in place.

  • If you click at the wrong time, your lockpick snaps and some tumblers reset — along with your patience.

It’s less about skill level and more about learning the rhythm. Even high-level locks can be cracked if you master the timing.

Lockpicking Tips

  • Listen for the Sound: Tumblers make a softer noise when moving slowly.

  • Don’t Rush: Clicking randomly is just a fast way to run out of lockpicks.

  • Practice on Easy Locks: Get used to the minigame before trying to rob a castle.

Final Blurb

Lockpicking in Oblivion Remastered isn’t about brute force — it’s about finesse, timing, and carrying way too many lockpicks because you will mess up. Find Shady Sam, join a shady guild, and soon you’ll be unlocking doors like you own the place.
