PEAK Mushroom Guide

Written by Jason B.

Mushrooms in the game PEAK can be lifesavers or instant problems. There are four edible types in the game, and most of them have poisonous variants that can poison and knock you out fast.

Learning to tell them apart is key if you plan to survive the mountain or unlock the Mycology Patch achievement.

All Edible Mushroom Types

Bugle Shroom

Common with a flower-like top.
Poison warning: If it has webbing at the base of the cap, it’s poisonous. These also tend to be a bit lighter in color than the safe ones.

Button Shroom

Small and round with an X on top.
Poison warning: The poisonous version loses the X and has small spots on the top instead.

Cluster Shroom

Looks like a small tree of caps branching upward.
Poison warning: Poisonous Clusters have frills around the stalk. If the stalk is smooth, it’s safe.

Chubby Shroom

Thick stem, flat top, and cartoonish look.
Poison warning: Most players have never seen a poisonous version. It’s widely considered to be always safe, but there are rare reports suggesting otherwise.

Effects of Poison

Eating a toxic mushroom gives you up to 10 poison ticks. This stacks if you eat more, which can wipe your run before you reach the next campsite. Unless you're starving, don’t risk it.

Other Mushroom Types

Shelf Mushroom

Cannot be eaten. Throw it to create a small platform that can help you cross gaps or save stamina.

Remedy Fungus

Also not edible. When thrown, it releases spores that clear all status effects in a small area.

How to Get the Mycology Patch

To unlock the Mycology Badge, you need to eat one of each of the four safe mushrooms in the same run.

Tips:

  • Focus on the Shore biome, where mushrooms spawn most often.

  • Locations are static, but spawns are random, so restart as needed.

  • Carefully examine each shroom before eating.

  • You’ll get a cosmetic Mushroom hat once completed.

Final Blurb

If you’re not paying attention in PEAK, mushrooms will ruin your run faster than a missed jump. Stick to what you can confirm, use visuals to spot danger, and don’t force the achievement if luck isn’t on your side.

The mountain will still be there.
