RimWorld Odyssey Deconstruct Substructure Guide (Gravship)
Written by Andrew Hammel
To deconstruct substructure in RimWorld Odyssey on your Gravship, you must use the Remove Foundation tool, not the regular Deconstruct or Remove Floor options. This is the only way to clear Gravship substructure tiles.
What Is Substructure
Substructure is the floor type used to build your Gravship’s layout. Anything not built on substructure won’t travel with your ship. It costs 1 Gravlite Panel and 4 Steel per tile.
You unlock it after researching Basic Gravtech.
How to Remove Substructure
You can’t remove substructure with:
The Deconstruct tool
The Remove Floor tool
Any other normal terrain command
Instead, do this:
Click your Grav Engine
Open the Manage Gravship menu
Select the Remove Foundation option
Drag it over the substructure tiles you want to delete
This will properly return some of the materials (up to 2 steel, sometimes a Gravlite Panel).
Substructure tiles also can’t be placed under rock roofs or mountains, so plan expansion carefully.
Why You Might Want to Remove It
Reshape your ship’s layout
Reclaim resources during early expansion
Avoid wasting rare Gravlite Panels
Fix issues where rooms are marked “not in gravity field”
Note: If you remove tiles that are supporting walls or furniture, those things will collapse or become unusable. Always remove floors last when reworking a section.
Final Blurb
Substructure is key to every Gravship in Odyssey, but removing it isn’t as simple as tearing up floors. If you're stuck with leftover tiles or misaligned builds, use the Remove Foundation tool. Anything else is a waste of precious time and clicks.
FAQ
Q: Why can’t I remove substructure with Deconstruct or Remove Floor?
Because substructure uses a special removal tool called Remove Foundation.
Q: Where do I find the Remove Foundation tool?
Click your Grav Engine, then look in the Manage Gravship tab.
Q: Do I get all my resources back?
Not always. You get 2 steel and may recover the Gravlite Panel.
Q: Can I place substructure under mountains?
No. You need to clear overhead roofs before building substructure there.
Q: What happens if I remove substructure under a bed or machine?
It becomes unusable and may collapse. Remove those items first.
