In Avowed, during the A Path to the Garden quest, you’ll face a tough decision when you meet Captain Aelfyr at the Shatterscarp Gatehouse. You have the option to either spare her or kill her, and each choice has different outcomes. Here’s a simple guide to help you decide on what to do:

1. Kill Captain Aelfyr

  • Outcome:

    • You will engage in a boss fight against Captain Aelfyr and her Steel Garrotes.

    • By defeating her, you will loot the Death Knight Gloves, a unique piece of armor with powerful stats.

    • This choice also acts as revenge, as Captain Aelfyr was involved in the burning of Fior mes Iverno during the Ancient Soil quest.

  • Recommended for players who want the exclusive loot and enjoy the challenge of a boss fight.

2. Spare Captain Aelfyr

  • Outcome:

    • Captain Aelfyr lets you pass through the gate without a fight, allowing you to continue the quest.

    • You’ll earn experience points but will miss out on the Death Knight Gloves immediately.

    • If you spare her, Captain Aelfyr will be infected with the Dreamscourge and later appear as an enemy in Galawain’s Tusks.

    • You’ll get a second chance to fight her and obtain the Death Knight Gloves after defeating her again.

  • Recommended for players who prefer avoiding the fight and are okay with facing Captain Aelfyr later in the game.

Best Choice:

  • Kill Captain Aelfyr if you want the Death Knight Gloves right away and enjoy a challenging boss fight.

  • Spare Captain Aelfyr if you want to avoid a fight at the gate and are willing to fight her later for the gloves.
