The Sword and the Quill is a main quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 that takes you into the Kuttenberg region for the first time. You'll explore Suchdol, meet important political figures, and start uncovering the major conflicts shaping the region. This quest guide and walkthrough will guide you through each step of the quest.

1. Talk to Lord Peter

  • Upon entering Suchdol, Lord Peter of Pisek will welcome your group and invite you to the banquet hall.

  • Follow him inside and listen to the conversation as you go.

  • Grab some food, re-equip your armor, and feed Mutt while inside the banquet hall.

  • Talk to your companions to gather important information:

    • Margrave Jobst is seeking allies against Sigismund, but Zizka and Peter are skeptical.

    • Hynek (Dry Devil) has been causing chaos in the region, but Jobst stopped him.

    • Everyone doubts King Wenceslas, but his legitimacy remains critical.

2. Explore Suchdol

  • Peter tells you that Jobst will meet you tomorrow. In the meantime, you can rest and explore the town.

  • Your sleeping quarters are up the stairs in a room marked by a wreath above the door.

  • The baths are in the courtyard near the well if you need to clean up.

  • Speak with Katherine and Zizka before bed for some extra dialogue.

    • If your Charisma is high, you can try to invite Katherine to stay with you (she'll refuse, but you'll gain reputation).

Optional Loot in Suchdol

Before heading to bed, you can find several useful items:

  • The Gamekeeper’s Letter – On a table in the banquet hall (reveals an abandoned lodge location).

  • Sketch — Broadsword – In a small chest across the hall from the banquet room.

  • Bowman’s Brew Recipe – In an Easy-locked chest in the alchemy chamber (west tower, ground floor).

  • High-quality armor and horse gear – In a Very Hard-locked chest above the alchemy chamber.

  • Cockerel Recipe – In a Very Hard-locked chest in the chapel (east tower, upper floor).

  • Cautious Cheater’s Die – In a Hard-locked chest in a room across from your quarters.

  • Horned Sword Guard – In a Very Hard-locked chest in the armory (east tower, top floor).

3. Head to Bed

  • Go to your assigned room and sleep.

  • Dream Sequence: You'll have another vision of your father.

  • Maid Zuzana will wake you up, informing you that Jobst wants to see you and Zizka.

4. Find Katherine and Zizka

  • Katherine is near the swordfighting arena speaking with the captain.

    • Challenge one of the captain’s men to a duel for a chance to win a Decorated Field Crossbow.

  • Zizka is in the northwest corner of the castle, telling stories about his scars.

    • Speak with him and he’ll tell you to meet Jobst alone.

    • Before meeting Jobst, talk to the Captain and the Huntsman to pick up The White Roebuck side quest.

5. Meet with Jobst

  • Go to the banquet hall to meet Jobst.

  • During the conversation, he’ll ask about what you revealed under torture.

    • Be honest—he doesn’t hold it against you.

Quest Complete

This concludes The Sword and the Quill. You’ve now entered the political conflicts of Kuttenberg and met some of its most important figures. The next step in the story will unfold from here.
