Some players have encountered a bug in the Johnny the Gob quest where, after Johnny surrenders and gives his shield, the quest automatically completes upon traveling to Semine without speaking to Gules. This can cause confusion, as it seems like the quest skips an important step. Fortunately, there are a couple of workarounds to avoid this issue. Try these in this order:
Solution 1: Fast Travel Immediately After Getting the Shield
As soon as Johnny surrenders and gives you his shield, get on your horse immediately.
Fast travel straight to Semine without delay.
This method ensures that Johnny does not leave the area before you turn in the quest.
Solution 2: Knock Out Johnny Before Fast Traveling
If Johnny tries to leave, knock him out as soon as he turns his back.
Then, fast travel to Semine right away.
This gives you extra time to wait for Gules to wake up and allows you to complete the quest properly.
What Happens If the Quest Auto-Completes?
If Johnny manages to leave the area before you turn in the shield, the quest does not fail.
Instead, it simply moves on to the next step in the chain.
Gules will still give you the next quest after a short delay, even if you didn’t turn in the shield manually.
If you don’t mind missing that step, you don’t need to replay anything—just continue the questline as normal.
By following these steps, you can do your best to make sure the quest completes properly and avoid unnecessary confusion.
