Catching a Barracuda in Dinkum isn’t hard—if you know when and where to look. If you don’t, well, enjoy staring at empty water.

Where to Find the Barracuda

The Barracuda only shows up in the Northern Ocean. But it’s picky—it only comes out at night during Spring and Summer.

If you're wandering around in Autumn or Winter, you're wasting your time.

Special Event Bonus

On the 22nd of Summer and 22nd of Winter, Max’s Fish Catching Competition kicks off. Thanks to "migration," Barracudas can be caught all day in any Ocean biome during these events. Even in Winter, when they normally don't show up.

How to Catch a Barracuda

  • Tool Needed: Fishing Rod
Buy a basic one from John after getting Fishing Licence Level 1 from Fletch.

  • Pro Tip: Level up your fishing skill to unlock better rods. Copper and Iron rods last longer, which helps when reeling in tough fish like the Barracuda.

  • Buff Up: Eat food or drink with a fishing buff to reel faster. It makes a difference, especially with high-value fish.

Best Time to Fish

Here’s when night starts in the right seasons:

  • Spring: 8 PM - Late

  • Summer: 9 PM - Late

So, grab your rod and head north once the sun dips.

What to Do With a Barracuda

  • Sell to John: 12,000 Dinks base price.

  • Sell to Ted Selly: Double the price.

  • Sell to Max (during comps): 2.5x the price.

  • Cook It: Toss it on a campfire or BBQ for some cooked saltwater fish.

  • Donate: Hand over one to the Museum.

  • Display: Drop it in a fish tank if you’re feeling fancy.

  • Gift: Some NPCs might ask for a fish—impress them with this one.

If you really want to cash in, stack up cooked fish and sell it to Jimmy for 1.5x value, or to Sheila when it's the "food of the day" for 2.5x.

Final Blurb

If you’re fishing for a Barracuda in Dinkum, remember—timing and location are everything. Show up at the wrong season or forget where north is, and you’ll be chatting with jellyfish instead. But nail it, and you’ve got yourself a 12,000 Dink prize on the line. Or more, if you know who to sell it to.
