Elden Ring Nightreign is built for three-player co-op, but it also supports solo play. You can team up with randoms or friends, launch expeditions together, and fight bosses across shifting maps.
There’s no duo-only mode, and there’s no cross-play, but setting up co-op is fast and simple.

How to Start a Co-Op Expedition
Use the Roundtable Hold Table
Once you finish the tutorial, go to the Expeditions table in Roundtable Hold. Press Commence Expedition, then pick the boss you want to fight.
By default, the game sets your Expedition Type to Multiplayer, which means you’ll be automatically matched with two other players if you’re not already in a party.
Once all three players are ready, the expedition starts.
Character Locking
Each class can only be picked by one player per team, so if someone else grabs your favorite, you’ll need a backup. Class selection happens after matchmaking but before the run begins.
How to Play Co-Op With Friends
From the Matchmaking Settings tab at the expedition table:
Select Invite Members to open your friends list
Add up to two friends to fill your squad
When everyone’s ready, start the expedition normally
You can also set a Multiplayer Password to limit matchmaking to people using the same code. This is great if your friends aren’t on your platform friends list but still want to play.
There’s also an option to use up to five Group Passwords to prioritize phantoms, messages, and other passive multiplayer elements from friends or communities.
Can You Play With Just One Friend?
Only with a password. If you invite one friend and don’t set a password, the game will automatically match you with a random third player.
There is no duo-only mode at launch.
Does Co-Op Work Across Platforms?
No cross-play. You can only co-op with players on the same system.
However, the game does support cross-generation play. That means:
