The Mapping the Living Lands quest in Avowed is a side quest where you track down lost cartographers in different regions and retrieve their maps. The quest is given by Sanza, a merchant in Paradis Hightown, and completing it rewards you with unique items and lore fragments.
If you enjoy exploring and uncovering the world’s secrets, this quest is for you. Below is a simple guide to finding all cartographer locations and completing the quest.
How to Start Mapping the Living Lands
You can start this quest in three different ways:
Speak to Sanza outside Claviger’s Landing – He’s near the bridge leading to Paradis.
Talk to Sanza inside Sanza’s Emporium – Located in Northern Paradis Hightown.
Find any cartographer’s map while exploring – This automatically triggers the quest.
Once you accept the quest, Sanza will send you to retrieve the lost cartographers' maps from various regions.
Cartographer Locations
The quest has three locations where you need to find fallen cartographers and collect their maps.
1. Dawnshore Cartographer
Location: Usher’s Hand, east side of Dawnshore, just outside Paradis.
What to Do: Loot Geirmund’s Map from his body.
Next Step: Return to Sanza and report Geirmund’s fate.
Reward: Fragment of the Scales (starts the Totem of Rightful Rulership quest).
2. Emerald Stair Cartographer
Location: Naku Tedek Grounds, in the Emerald Stair.
What to Do: Find Fleccia’s remains and loot Fleccia’s Map.
Next Step: Return to Sanza and report back.
Reward: Awakened Adra (lore item).
3. Shatterscarp Cartographer
Location: South of Shatterscarp, near the water, just below Twin Offerings Overlook.
What to Do: Find the fallen cartographer’s body and loot the map.
Next Step: Bring the map back to Sanza.
4. Galawain’s Tusks – Renato’s Location (Still Alive!)
Where to Find: Soreena’s Mercy prison, just outside Solace Keep.
What Happened: Renato, unlike the others, is actually alive—though he’s locked up for grave robbing.
How to Get Him Out:
Speak to Renato on the second floor of the prison.
Tell the guard “He’s learned his lesson. Let him out.”
Pick any of the three follow-up options, and he’ll be released without needing any skill checks.
Alternative Option: If you leave him in prison, you can still loot his cartography notes and return them to Sanza.
Final Steps
After retrieving all three maps, return to Sanza at Sanza’s Emporium.
Completing each region’s quest gives unique rewards and lore items.
If you completed Dawnshore’s quest, you will unlock a new quest called Totem of Rightful Rulership.
