Trying to use Charged Bolts and feeling like you're solving a puzzle with no picture? You’re not alone. The game doesn’t make it very clear, and the interface can be a bit… shy. Here’s how to use charged bolts.
Step-by-Step: How to Equip and Use Charged Bolts
Equip Your Crossbow
First, make sure your crossbow is equipped and visible on your wrist. The radial menu won’t work if the crossbow isn’t out.Open the Radial Menu
Press and hold the C key (or whatever your "item select" key is).
Don’t just tap it—hold it down.Select Charged Bolts With Your Mouse
When the radial menu pops up, you’ll see icons for different bolt types.
Move your mouse over the Charged Bolt icon, then left-click it.
Just hovering over it isn’t enough—you have to click it.Wait for Reload
The crossbow will reload using the selected bolt type. If it doesn’t, try again—sometimes the game needs a second to catch up.
Extra Tips If It’s Not Working
You do NOT need an upgraded crossbow for Charged Bolts. That’s a myth.
If the menu won’t open, try:
Saving your game and reloading.
Unequipping and reequipping the crossbow.
Checking your controls to make sure “item select” is still bound to a key.
Verifying your game files through Steam.
Radial menu won’t function unless your crossbow is out and visible on your wrist. If it’s holstered, the menu will glitch or show the wrong icons.
Final Blurb
It’s a bit clunky for a futuristic survival game, but once you figure it out, switching to Charged Bolts becomes second nature. Just make sure the crossbow is out, hold C, click the ammo type—not just hover—and you’re good to go. And if it breaks? Reload that save and grumble like the rest of us.
