Gold Ship Build Guide | Uma Musume Pretty Derby

Written by Priya Kapoor

Gold Ship needs a very specific setup to perform well. She runs from the back, saves her energy, then surges forward near the end. If she has the stats and support to survive the middle, she can easily crush the final stretch.

Here’s how to build her properly without relying on luck alone.

Stat Priorities

Speed

Still your most important stat. She needs enough Speed to pass the whole field late in the race.

Power

Essential for her final push. You want 500+ Power to help her break through and hold momentum.

Stamina

You’ll need at least 400+ for Medium, and closer to 500+ for Long. If you don’t have recovery skills like Maestro, aim higher.

Wit

Try to get around 400+. This helps her skills activate properly and gives small stamina boosts during training.

Guts

Unlike most runners, Guts actually matters here. It supports her sprint from the back and helps reduce stamina drain in the final spurt.

Best Support Cards for Gold Ship

This build balances front-loaded training with late-race stability.

3 Speed Cards

Use high-quality Speed cards that help with late-race or Closer-style skills. You can get away with 2 Speed cards if the others fill gaps.

2 Stamina or 1 Stamina + 1 Power

Super Creek is a must if you can get her. Her recovery skill is perfect for long races. The second slot can be either another Stamina or a Power card depending on your inheritances.

1 Wit Card

Fine Motion is great here. She improves skill use and gives steady recovery to help avoid wasting turns on resting.

Optional: Guts Card

Some players will swap in one Guts card instead of extra Stamina or Power. Guts training gives 3 stats at once, so it’s sometimes worth the trade, but generally I don’t like it as much.

Training Strategy

Speed is still your main focus, but this build needs balance.

Prioritize Speed

Keep Speed high throughout the run. Aim to get it to Level 5 training before the end.

Train Power and Guts Together

Guts drills raise Speed, Power, and Guts all at once. If they have multiple supports on them, they’re often better than a plain Power drill.

Use Wit to Recover

Wit drills are good for stamina control and skill hints. They’re usually better than using the Rest option unless she’s totally drained.

Watch Your Stamina

Make sure Stamina keeps up with Speed. If you’re behind, shift into Stamina training or make sure you trigger Super Creek’s recovery skill early enough.

Friendship First

Early on, build bond with all support characters. Strong bond = stronger stats and better skill unlocks.

Best Skills for Gold Ship

Catchy Maestro

This recovery skill from Super Creek keeps her stable in long races.

Stamina-based Recovery

Any skill that restores stamina during or after turns helps with her End playstyle.

Late Boost Skills

Anything that triggers in the final 200m or after halfway point works well. Gold Ship needs help in the last stretch, not the first.

Power and Guts Boosts

These stack nicely with her natural stat needs and help her finish strong.

Race Style Tips

Gold Ship is best as an End or Closer runner.

Her stats are made to surge late, not lead early. Always set her race style to End, and build for Long or Medium races.

Good legacy picks include:

  • Mihono Bourbon

  • Narita Brian

  • T.M. Opera O

Avoid legacy runners that focus on Front or Pace styles. They don’t match her skill triggers or distance preferences.

Final Blurb

Gold Ship takes more effort than most girls, but once she’s set up, she can sweep past the entire field like nothing. The key is giving her the stamina and power to survive the wait, then burst forward when it counts.

She might flop sometimes no matter what you do, but that’s just GoldShi.

TLDR

  • Focus on Speed first, but don’t let Power or Stamina fall behind

  • Guts actually helps her more than most other characters

  • Super Creek is a must for her recovery skill

  • Use 3 Speed, 2 Stamina (or 1 Power), and 1 Wit for a balanced deck

  • Train Speed mostly, but use Guts drills when you see 3+ characters

  • Wit drills are better than Resting if stamina is just a bit low

  • Run her in End or Closer style, never Front

  • She needs recovery and stamina support for Long races

  • RNG can still ruin good runs... and that’s part of her charm
