PEAK Game Rejoin Bug Is Breaking Multiplayer Sessions

PEAK Rejoin Bug Is Breaking Multiplayer Sessions

Written by Andrew Hammel

A growing number of PEAK game players are reporting a critical rejoin bug that’s turning routine disconnections into game-ending softlocks. When a player crashes or loses connection during a multiplayer run, attempting to rejoin now either traps them in the Terminal or locks their screen in an unusable UI, forcing a full game restart. This is a common problem at the moment.

While PEAK has always treated returning players harshly (labeling them as “dead” on rejoin) this recent bug takes it a step further. Players report being unable to access the menu, unable to move, and unable to interact with the world at all. Even respawn statues, which usually bring fallen players back, have no effect on rejoiners caught in this broken state.

“The UI just freezes,” one player shared in a report to the devs. “I can hear the game world and my friends, I even see their achievements pop, but I can’t move or press Esc. It’s like I’m watching the game from behind glass.”

Multiple Steam discussion threads have popped up this week, filled with hundreds of players confirming the issue. Some say they respawn in the Terminal after a disconnect, with no way to re-enter the expedition their friends are still inside. Others describe spawning into a starry sky with no map, no character movement, and no functioning inputs.

“Even using a statue doesn’t bring them back,” one frustrated player posted. “Their character shows as rejoined, but nothing works. We had to quit the entire run.”

Developers have acknowledged the issue in forum replies, stating, “We will take a look,” but no fix or official patch has been released as of June 29. The lack of a working rejoin system is especially frustrating in a game that relies heavily on group progression and timed, coordinated efforts.

For now, PEAK’s rejoin button seems to be more of a trap than a tool. Until a patch is released, players dealing with disconnects are likely better off starting a new session entirely, which is an unfortunate reality in a game designed around long cooperative climbs.

If you’re playing PEAK with friends and someone disconnects, don’t count on getting them back. The rejoin feature is broken across the board, and it’s costing players entire sessions. Until the devs push a fix, your safest option is to avoid disconnections altogether… somehow…
