For players who think Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is too forgiving (a questionable opinion), Warhorse Studios has revealed Hardcore Mode, an upcoming free update set to make Henry’s life significantly harder. No more fast travel, no player marker on the map, and mandatory negative perks—because navigating medieval Bohemia wasn’t miserable enough already.
What to Expect in Hardcore Mode
Hardcore Mode strips away most UI elements, forcing players to navigate the world by memory instead of relying on a map marker. The compass no longer shows cardinal directions, and fast travel is completely disabled, meaning every journey must be done on foot or horseback with actual effort.
To make things worse, players are required to choose three permanent negative perks at the start of Hardcore Mode. These perks will alter gameplay in cruel and unusual ways, ensuring every decision—whether it’s fighting, eating, or simply existing—comes with added difficulty.
Hardcore Mode’s Negative Perks
Warhorse Studios has revealed ten negative perks, and players must pick at least three to activate Hardcore Mode. Some highlights include:
Bad Luck – Henry can carry less and might randomly hurt his back picking herbs (nature is dangerous).
Somnambulant – Henry might sleepwalk into the woods, because apparently, life wasn’t complicated enough.
Hangry Henry – Food fills Henry 20% less, and starving lowers his Speech, Charisma, and Intimidation.
Sweaty – Henry gets dirty faster, smells worse, and perfume no longer helps. Stealth just got harder.
Bashful – Henry is too shy to ask for directions and can’t get full services at the bathhouse. (Medieval introvert mode activated.)
Punchable Face – Enemies never surrender, and road encounters are more dangerous (probably deserved).
Menace – Getting branded a criminal is permanent, and a second serious crime results in execution.
The other perks involve less loot from animals, louder movement, slower experience gain, and guards punishing you more harshly—because apparently, they weren’t already strict enough.
Hardcore Mode Release Date
Warhorse Studios has confirmed that Hardcore Mode will be released in March, alongside the Barber Update, which will finally let players change Henry’s hair and beard styles. So, at least Henry can look fresh while suffering.
Is Hardcore Mode for You?
Hardcore Mode is not for the faint of heart. If you enjoy struggling to find your way, getting ambushed by aggressive enemies, and being permanently marked as a criminal, this mode will deliver. If you prefer convenience and sanity, maybe stick to the standard game.
Either way, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is about to get a lot more punishing—so prepare for longer walks, worse hygiene, and a whole new appreciation for regular gameplay.
