How to Co-op Monster Hunter Wilds’ Story

Playing through Monster Hunter Wilds with friends is easier than ever—except when it isn’t. While the Link Party system helps streamline things, there’s still one major hurdle: cutscenes. If you’re wondering why you can’t jump straight into the story with your friends, here’s exactly how it works.

How to Play Co-op the Story in Monster Hunter Wilds

Step 1: Form a Link Party

  • Before starting a mission, create or join a Link Party with your friends.

  • This ensures that everyone gets automatic invites when a hunt begins.

Step 2: Watch Any Cutscenes Alone

  • Just like in Monster Hunter World, cutscenes must be watched solo before co-op play begins.

  • Once the mission start screen appears, that’s your cue—it’s time to invite your friends.

Step 3: Send & Accept Invitations

  • After the cutscene, the game will send out invites to all Link Party members.

  • Friends can then accept the invite and join your hunt.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Mid-mission cutscenes will interrupt co-op – If a story moment happens mid-hunt, your friends may have to wait again before rejoining.

  • You must re-invite players for certain quests – Some missions may require another round of invites after key story events.

  • Capcom might improve this system later – Many players aren’t thrilled about the cutscene requirement, so future updates could tweak how this works.

Final Blurb

While Monster Hunter Wilds makes co-op easier, story missions still have some frustrating solo sections. If you want to play with friends, just be patient during cutscenes, and you’ll be back to hunting together in no time.
