How to Fix Kvatch Quest Bug (Stuck) in Oblivion Remastered

If Savlian Matius is standing around like he's waiting for a bus instead of leading you through Castle Kvatch, congratulations—you've encountered one of Oblivion Remastered's classic bugs, now in HD.

Here’s how to get things moving again when "The Battle for Castle Kvatch" quest breaks:

1. Run Ahead and Grab the Count's Ring

  • If Savlian refuses to move in the courtyard, just ignore him and head inside the castle yourself.

  • Fight through the enemies until you reach the Count’s Quarters.

  • Look for the Count’s body—he’s lying beside the bed.

  • Loot the Count’s Signet Ring from him. If you don’t see it, loot everything, leave the room, then return—sometimes the quest ring spawns after reloading the area.

Once you have the ring, return to Savlian. This usually forces the quest to update and lets you continue.

2. Stuck Gate After Chapel?

  • If the gate won’t open because “enemies are nearby” but you can’t find any:

    • Try re-entering the Chapel and then coming back out.

    • Savlian should reset his position and trigger the next event.

    • If that doesn’t work, some players have... creatively solved it by knocking out Savlian and dragging him to the gate. Desperate times.

3. The Ring Isn’t Working?

  • If Savlian doesn’t recognize the ring:

    • Make sure it’s actually labeled as the quest item (it’ll have a long name, not just "Ring").

    • If it’s a generic ring, try the loot-then-reload trick mentioned above.

    • Worst case, reload a save before entering the castle and try again.

Final Blurb

Welcome to Cyrodiil, where the real enemy isn’t Daedra—it’s the bugs. Luckily, most Kvatch glitches can be brute-forced with a little persistence and looting skills. Next time Savlian wants to stand around doing nothing, you’ll know exactly what to do: leave him behind and finish the job yourself, like a true Hero of Kvatch.
