How to Import Your Character in Dune Awakening

How to Import Your Character in Dune Awakening

Written by Tyler Harris

If you made a character using the creator tool before launch and now it’s nowhere to be found, don’t panic. The import system in Dune Awakening does work... it’s just weirdly picky.

Here’s how to make sure your character file gets loaded properly so you don’t have to remake your perfect cheekbone slider from scratch.

Where Your Character File Needs to Be

Check the file location

Your character file should be in this folder:
C:\Users\[YOURNAME]\Documents\DuneAwakening

The file will end in .json and often starts with SavedCharacter. If it's not here, the game won't detect it no matter how hard you click "Import."

Beware of OneDrive

Some users have reported OneDrive sneakily moving the file to the cloud. If you’re syncing your Documents folder, check OneDrive’s DuneAwakening directory.

Either move the file back locally or disable sync temporarily.

How to Import Your Character

Step 1: Launch the game

Start Dune Awakening normally. On the main character creation screen, look for the Import Character button.

If it’s greyed out or nothing happens, double check that your file is in the correct folder and named properly. Sometimes the game is just stubborn.

Step 2: Restart if it’s not working

In a few cases, the file won’t show up even if everything’s in the right place. A quick full restart of the game has fixed this for multiple players.

Yes, it’s a little old-school, but it works.

Step 3: Use only one character file

If you have multiple .json files saved, try leaving just one in the folder while importing. The game may get confused if it sees more than one and doesn’t know which one to show.

Final Blurb

Importing your character in Dune Awakening isn’t broken, it’s just fussy. Keep your file local, use the right folder, and restart if needed.

Once it works, your old design should load right into the new game without having to rebuild your sand-resistant jawline from memory.

FAQ

Q: Where should my character file be saved?

Inside Documents\DuneAwakening, as a .json file.

Q: Why doesn’t the import option appear?

It may be missing if the file is in the wrong folder, if OneDrive moved it, or if you haven’t restarted the game yet.

Q: Can I have multiple saved characters to choose from?

Only one importable file is supported at a time. Move the others out temporarily.

Q: What if I made my character during the benchmark or standalone creator?

Those files are still compatible, as long as they’re in the correct location and the game detects them.

Q: Does the game give a pop-up or prompt when importing?

Not always. It just shows the Import option on the main screen if a valid file is detected.
