Running out of hands in the middle of a gunfight? Here’s how to unlock more crew slots so you’re not stuck with only a small crew of people forever.

How to Get More Crew Members

Defeat a Stronghold (Not Just an Outpost)

You won’t be able to expand your crew until you take down a faction stronghold. Outposts don’t count. These are major enemy bases marked clearly on your map. After beating your first one—like the Gun Nutz stronghold—you’ll unlock the ability to increase your crew size.

Until then, you’re capped.

Use Training Manuals to Unlock the Upgrade

Once the stronghold is cleared, head to your camp and check the upgrade menu.

  • Look for the crew size upgrade.

  • The first upgrade costs 5 Training Manuals.

  • Be careful: Training Manuals are also used to boost recruit starting level, which is a separate option. If you’ve already spent them all, you’ll need to collect more before unlocking new slots.

You Don’t Need to Lose Crew First

We initially assumed someone had to die before adding more. That’s not true. You just need to unlock the slot and assign a new recruit.

Final Blurb

If your squad keeps getting overwhelmed, it’s probably time to hit a stronghold and unlock more crew. The game won’t tell you this directly, but once you know, it makes a big difference. More crew means more guns, more repairs, and fewer reloads from the last checkpoint.
