If you’re tired of getting ripped off by merchants in Oblivion Remastered, it’s time to boost that Mercantile skill. Leveling Mercantile will save you gold—and maybe even make you rich.

Here’s how to climb the ranks of Cyrodiil’s economy without losing your shirt.

How to Level Mercantile Fast in Oblivion Remastered

Good news! Unlike the original Oblivion, you don’t need to sell items one by one anymore. In Oblivion Remastered, Mercantile XP is based on how much gold you earn per transaction, not how many times you click "sell."

So, instead of wasting time selling 300 arrows individually, you can:

  • Sell in bulk: The more valuable the transaction, the more XP you get.

  • Focus on high-value items like enchanted gear, potions, or rare loot.

  • Use alchemy to craft potions and sell them for easy profits.

  • Steal... responsibly. If you're part of the Thieves Guild, fences are your best friends.

To track your progress, open your character screen, head to Skills, and check the circular XP bar under Mercantile after each sale.

What Mercantile Does

Mercantile isn’t just about better prices. As you level up, you unlock perks that make every merchant in Cyrodiil practically beg for your business:

  • Apprentice (25): No more penalties for selling damaged goods.

  • Journeyman (50): Buy and sell anything to anyone.

  • Expert (75): Merchants carry more gold, and you can invest in their shops.

  • Master (100): You always get the best price, no haggling needed.

Best Ways to Train Mercantile

Start by visiting Foroch at Gottshaw Inn west of Kvatch, or Mach-Na at her bookshop in Cheydinhal. Both of these trainers can help you level Mercantile up to 40.

Once you’ve hit that point, head to Margarte in Leyawiin near the Great Chapel, or Seed-Neeus at Northern Goods and Trade in Chorrol. These two can train you further, taking your skill up to 70.

If you’re part of the Thieves Guild, you can also find Khafiz in Dunbarrow Cove, south of Anvil, who offers advanced training up to 75.

Finally, when you’re ready to become a true master merchant, visit Palonirya at Divine Elegance in the Imperial City’s Market District. She’s the only one who can train you from 71 all the way to 100.

Pro Tips for Mercantile Mastery

  • Invest in shops once you hit Expert for long-term profit.

  • Combine Mercantile with Speechcraft for even better deals.

  • Always repair and enchant items before selling to boost value.

  • Join the Thieves Guild early if you plan to “source” your inventory creatively.

Final Blurb

In Oblivion Remastered, gold talks—and with a high Mercantile skill, you’ll be fluent. Mercantile turns every merchant encounter into easy profit. Just remember: in Cyrodiil, even heroes have to haggle.
