Money makes the rat world go ‘round. Here’s how to keep your treasury full without your ratizens starving or rioting.

Set smart taxes early

Go with 700 Thr, 20% wealth tax. Rats will still climb to middle class without bankrupting themselves. If you tax too high early, rats stay poor forever and your economy stalls.

Always use subsidies

Set a 200 Thr minimum and give a 200 Thr gift to poor rats. This stops deaths from poverty and keeps them spending.

Build a Trading Post ASAP

Not the National Trading Post. Just the regular Trading Post. This is the best early game income. Sell junk you don’t need. Trading also gives free science points when you sell unknown goods. Easy profit.

Get Minting rolling

When you can, build the Mint. Only mint Gold Bars. Save your Copper for electronics and crafting. Minting boosts your total wealth which helps taxes and prosperity.

Don’t overlevel your rats too fast

Higher class rats expect better housing, food, and luxury. Let some stay lower class or you’ll drain money keeping up with their demands.

Use rats wisely at work

  • Speedy rats: Leave unemployed to haul items faster or use them for your army.

  • Athletic rats: Good for jobs that require long walks (gathering, fishing).

  • Efficient rats: Perfect for jobs with progress bars like Minting or Weaving.

  • Pacifist rats: Keep them out of the army.

Get a Bank (if you like risk)

Once midgame hits, unlock the Bank. You can buy Dar low, sell high. If you mess it up, you might owe a lot. If you time it right, free money.

Dungeons can also pay

  • Forgotten Mines: Noslin ore sells well.

  • Weasel Chieftain: Grab the armor reward to avoid spending extra on military gear.

Let rats have some money

When events offer to give money to your rats, say yes. It comes back to you through taxes and boosts their class faster.

Final Blurb

Mint smart, trade early, and keep rats spending. A broke rat city dies fast. A rich rat city? You’ll never worry about invasions or shortages again.
