If you're staring at the Dimensional Portal and wondering why it’s still locked, odds are you're missing some Pyre Hearts. To progress the story and unlock new challenge modes, you’ll need to unlock at least two additional Pyre Hearts.

Here’s a quick guide on how to get it done.

Where to Check Pyre Heart Requirements

Before you start a run, click on the Pyre Heart icon on the setup screen. This lets you choose which one to use... but more importantly, it shows the unlock conditions for all locked hearts.

You can also check them in the in-game Library if you're just browsing between runs.

The Three Early Pyre Hearts You Can Unlock

You only need two of the following three to unlock the Dimensional Portal and continue with the story.

Lifemother’s Pyre

Take 475 total Pyre damage across any number of runs.

Yes, this includes losing. If you want to rush it, just start and fail a few quick runs. Not the most graceful strategy, but it works.

Heart of the Pact

Win 9 battles with Trials enabled.

At the start of most fights, you’ll get the option to toggle a Trial. These add a twist to the encounter, usually making it harder, but also more rewarding. You need to win 9 of these across your runs.

Wyngh’s Spirit

Move your units 275 times.

Every time a unit changes position during battle, it counts. Certain cards, skills, and abilities automatically move units, so this one tends to unlock naturally over time.

If you want to speed it up, start using anything that swaps or shifts placement; even if it's not totally optimal.

Why Unlocking Pyre Hearts Matters

Once you’ve unlocked two Pyre Hearts, the Dimensional Portal opens up. This adds a new layer to the game with Dimensional Challenges, tougher encounters with custom modifiers and unique rewards.

You’ll also unlock Malicka’s Shifting Pyre, a heart that boosts every unit you recruit during a run.

Final Blurb & FAQ

Unlocking Pyre Hearts in Monster Train 2 is one of the few tasks that’s both simple and worth doing early. You’ll open up new content, get better upgrades, and maybe even suffer a little less along the way.
