If you want to survive the train ride from hell, picking the right clan helps... a lot. Some factions are insane while some are relatively mid.
Here’s a chart with our rankings, and then we’ll dive a little deeper into each down below.
Tier | Clans | Summary |
---|---|---|
S | Lazarus League, Melting Remnant, | Top-tier scaling, powerful synergies, and dominant mechanics. Great for high Covenant runs. |
A | Underlegion, Luna Coven | Very strong with the right build. One floods the field, the other nukes it with spells. |
B | Banished, Pyreborne, Hellhorned | Reliable and balanced, but lack the overpowered ceiling of higher-tier clans. |
C | Umbra, Stygian Guard | Have solid tools but feel outclassed. Somewhat clunky and need specific support. |
D | Awoken | Slow, setup-heavy, and doesn't scale fast enough in late-game content. |
S Tier
Lazarus League (New Clan: Read more on them here)
This one’s a chemical nightmare in the best way. Potion mechanics plus Unstable make them a top pick for players who like planning out chain reactions.
A Plague Doctor sitting behind a tank can melt waves. Just keep your own units alive long enough to do it.
Melting Remnant
Still the kings of dying on purpose. Melting Remnant thrives on burning out units, then bringing them back even stronger.
If you're good at juggling Reform and Burnout cycles, this clan can flood the board with relentless attackers. Paraffin Thug and Waxen Spike are stupid strong when built around right.
A Tier
Underlegion (New Clan: Read more on them here)
Spamming fungus minions has never been so satisfying. Underlegion floods the board with weaklings that snowball fast. Once the Grow Room is set up and Propagate spam is rolling, you’ll drown enemies in mushroom goo.
They’re a bit draw-dependent early on, though.
Luna Coven - (New Clan: Read more on them here)
A weird but deadly magic-focused clan. They rely on stacking Conduit bonuses and timing Moon Phases, which makes them fragile early but terrifying late.
With strong support, they can wipe whole floors before enemies even react.
B Tier
Banished (New Clan: Read more on them here)
Fel hits hard and scales well with Valor, but the overall kit doesn’t quite pop the way newer clans do. Still,
they're a solid pick with straightforward synergy and easy-to-understand mechanics. Reliable, but not flashy.
Hellhorned
The “punch things until they explode” faction. Rage stacking still works and can bulldoze lower Covenant runs.
They do fall off at higher difficulty unless you patch their weaknesses with spell-heavy support.
Pyreborne (New Clan: Read more on them here)
Solid, balanced, but a little... plain. Pyreborne is a middle-of-the-road clan that leans on steady frontline units and reliable damage output.
They have strong tanky options like the Greed Dragon, which is great for soaking hits while your allied clan handles the flashy stuff. Great as a secondary clan if you need durability or Ember boosts.
C Tier
Awoken
Thorns and healing just aren’t cutting it anymore. They take too long to get going, and while the sustainability is nice, they don’t deal enough damage to matter in the long run.
Some builds can work, but it’s a gamble.
Stygian Guard
Once top-tier spellcasters, now a little outpaced. They still have useful frost control and burst damage, but Luna Coven sort of stole their thunder.
Best used for early run spell spam with backup from a tankier clan.
D Tier
Umbra
They’ve fallen hard. Their Morsel-based gimmick feels slow, clunky, and fragile. Ember Drain tricks can still work, but the whole “eat to grow” thing needs a rework to feel viable.
Right now, they’re a headache unless you're a masochist.
What About Wurmkin?
The devs confirmed that Wurmkin is planned to return in a future update. No word yet on how they’ll work, but it’ll definitely shake things up once they drop.
