Oblivion Remastered: Boots of Springheel Jak Quest Walkthrough

You’ve fenced your way up the Thieves Guild ranks—now it’s time to grave-rob a legendary thief and battle a vampire. Here’s a simple quest guide.
How To Start Boots of Springheel Jak
Before this quest unlocks:
Fence 800 gold worth of stolen items.
Complete the previous quest Arrow of Extrication.
Once ready, Amusei will track you down (only if you’re in a city). He’ll say the Gray Fox has a new job. Head to Ganrendel’s house in Cheydinhal to get the details from the Gray Fox himself.
Your task:
Find the burial site of Springheel Jak, a master thief from the past, and recover his enchanted boots.
Step 1: Track Down Jakben Imbel
The only lead is Jakben Imbel, Springheel Jak’s last known descendant.
What to do:
Travel to the Imperial City.
Ask any beggar about Jakben. (Be sure to give a coin or they won’t talk.)
You’ll learn he lives in the Talos Plaza District and is a known eccentric who avoids going out during the day.
Breaking Into Jakben’s House
Head to Jakben’s house in Talos Plaza around 5 PM.
Pick the front door lock (it’s average difficulty).
Head upstairs into Jakben Imbel’s Private Quarters.
Jakben will panic when he sees you. Instead of fighting, he’ll hand you the Imbel Family Crypt Key and direct you to the basement. Suspicious? Yes. But we’ll play along.
Step 2: Explore The Catacombs
Go to the basement of Jakben’s house and unlock the door leading to the Catacombs.
Expect trouble:
The crypt is crawling with vampires and undead.
Bring Cure Disease potions or spells—you will get hit with Vampirism or worse if you’re not careful.
Stock up on health potions or healing magic. Some enemies can hit pretty hard.
Looting Tip
Search the crypt fully. There are random chests scattered around with gold, potions, and possibly enchanted gear.
Step 3: Find The "Empty" Coffin
At the back of the crypt, you’ll find a coffin supposedly holding Springheel Jak’s remains. But inside? No boots.
Instead, there’s Jakben’s Diary. Read it.
Diary reveals:
Jakben isn’t just a descendant—he is Springheel Jak.
He’s a vampire and has been hiding in plain sight.
Step 4: The Fight With Jakben
The moment you finish reading, Jakben rushes in and attacks.
Combat tips:
He may use a Chameleon effect, making him nearly invisible. Keep an eye out for movement or ready an area-effect spell.
He wears decent armor and has vampire abilities like Drain Health.
Defeat him and loot his body. The prize:
Boots of Springheel Jak: Fortify Athletics +50 points.
Other valuables: Grab his armor and any enchanted items he drops.
Step 5: Return To The Gray Fox
Bring the boots back to the Gray Fox in Cheydinhal.
Your reward:
500 gold.
Unlock the final Thieves Guild quest.
Final Blurb
What starts as a simple relic hunt quickly turns into vampire hunting and a personal betrayal. At least you get some stylish, speed-boosting boots out of the deal. On to the next heist.
