Oblivion Remastered: Should You Use Keyboard or Controller?

Wondering if you should dive into Oblivion Remastered with a controller or stick to classic mouse and keyboard? A lot of players are asking the same thing—especially those who last played on console back in the day (which was us, too).

Here’s a simple rundown to help you decide before you get stuck fumbling through Cyrodiil’s menus.

Comfort vs. Control

If you're all about comfort, a controller is the easy pick. Sitting back with a PS5 or Xbox controller feels natural, especially if you're planning long play sessions from the couch. Plus, Oblivion Remastered has full controller support, so no awkward button mapping like the old PC days.

But if you prefer precision, mouse and keyboard still win. Navigating menus, picking locks, or aiming spells and arrows is faster and sharper with a mouse. It’s also easier to quicksave when panic sets in—just tap that F5.

Which Controller Should You Use?

If you’re going the controller route, here’s the simple answer:
Use whatever you’re most comfortable with.

  • Xbox Controller: Works natively with Windows. No setup headaches—just plug and play.

  • PS5 Controller: Great if you like the feel of DualSense. Some players hope for haptic feedback, but don’t hold your breath—Bethesda didn’t exactly build Oblivion Remastered around next-gen features.

Why PC Has the Edge

No matter what you choose to play with, PC is the best option if you have it.

  • Access to console commands (perfect for when the game inevitably bugs out).

  • Mods, of course. Even if you're keeping it vanilla for now, you'll thank yourself later.

  • Flexibility to switch between keyboard and controller whenever you want.

Final Blurb

If you’re lounging on a sofa? Grab a controller.
If you’re glued to a desk? Stick with mouse and keyboard.
And if you’re still debating between Xbox or PS5 controllers—just pick the one your hands know best.

Either way, you’ll still end up yelling at a guard, getting lost in a cave, and accidentally stealing a loaf of bread. Welcome back to Cyrodiil.
