Oblivion Remastered What Difficulty You Should Play On

In case you missed it, Oblivion Remastered ditched the old-school difficulty slider and now offers five clean difficulty settings… Just like Skyrim and Starfield. But don’t worry, you can still tweak it mid-game if that cave full of goblins starts feeling more like a death sentence.

Here’s a quick breakdown so you don’t accidentally sign up for “Master” and wonder why a wolf just ended your career.

All Difficulty Levels in Oblivion Remastered and What They Do

Novice Difficulty

Enemies take 2x damage, you take half damage. Basically, you're a walking god.

Apprentice Difficulty

Enemies take 1.5x damage, you take 0.75x damage. Still pretty easy, but you might block once in a while.

Adept Difficulty (Default)

Both you and enemies deal normal damage. Fair fights... mostly.

Expert Difficulty

Enemies take 0.75x damage, you take 1.5x damage. Hope you like using potions.

Master Difficulty

Enemies take half damage, you take double damage. Every fight feels like you owe the enemy money.

What’s the Best Difficulty Setting to Play On?

If you're wondering where to start—Adept is your best bet. It’s balanced, it won’t make you cry, and it still lets you feel like you're earning your victories.

Cranking it up to Expert or Master is great if you enjoy watching your sword bounce off enemies like it's made of wood. But hey, more swings mean more XP, so there’s that silver lining.

If you're just here for the story, exploration, or to relive the glory days without getting smacked around by imps, Novice or Apprentice will make Cyrodiil a much friendlier place.

The good news? There are no difficulty-based achievements, and you can adjust the setting anytime. So if that "easy" dungeon turns into a goblin convention, feel free to dial it down—no one’s judging.

Final Blurb

Pick what feels fun. If you want to roleplay as an unstoppable hero, go easy. If you prefer every fight to feel like a boss battle, crank it up. Just remember—mudcrabs don’t care what difficulty you're on. They'll still judge you.
