R.E.P.O. 2-Player Guide & Tips

Running R.E.P.O. with just two (2) players is definitely possible and something you can do—but it’s also kind of a mess. You don’t have the luxury of a full squad to carry loot, distract monsters, or revive you when you inevitably fling yourself off a balcony while holding a microwave.
But hey, with some coordination (and a little panic), you’ll be fine. Lucky for you, we’ve written down some tips and advice to help you if you decide to play this game as just a duo.
Team Roles (Yes, You Need to Actually Plan)
Player 1: The Scout
Clears rooms and locates loot
Activates extraction points and marks safe paths
Can gather small items and prep them for pickup
Player 2: The Cart Gremlin
Manages the cart and hauls loot to extraction
Packs items carefully to avoid breakage
Handles defense if enemies show up mid-run
Swap roles if one of you dies, gets lost, or just wants to do less work.
Ignore Big Items (Mostly)
Heavy loot is great... until it gets you killed. Stick to small and medium stuff unless the big item is:
Right next to extraction
Not in a monster-infested hallway
Worth a ton
Always Bring the Cart
Yes, even if you think it’s “just a short run.” No, you won’t “come back for it later.” Bring the cart. Park it near the loot zone. Save your knees.
Don’t Wake the Neighbors
Enemies will ruin your life.
Crouch near them
Don’t sprint unless absolutely needed
Don’t bonk loot into walls or furniture—it makes noise
Some enemies chase. Some grab. Some just scream. Avoid all of them.
Use the Shrink Trick to Escape
Hit Q to shrink into an object.
Jump, sprint, then shrink to launch yourself out of danger.
Great for:
Escaping enemies
Crossing big gaps
Startling your teammate when you launch through a window screaming
Play Catch With Corpses
If your buddy dies, grab their head and carry it to the extraction point to revive them.
Yes, this is a real mechanic. Yes, you can throw the head to each other like a haunted football. Use it.
Combat Tips for Tiny Crews
Buy mines or grenades early—super useful when you're outnumbered
If one person is carrying loot, the other should handle defense
Anything you can swing with Q becomes a weapon. Even a potted plant.
When You Hit the Service Station
Grab stamina upgrades first—they're cheap and essential
Only buy health packs if you’re limping
Pick one weapon for the team—usually a grenade or stun
Remember: shop inventory changes every run, so buy what you need while it’s there
Final Blurb
Two-player R.E.P.O. is kind of like robbing a haunted IKEA with a buddy and a shopping cart. You’ll panic. You’ll yell. You’ll bond over launching your own body across a hallway in terror. And you’ll probably die a few times.
But hey—at least you don’t have to split the loot five ways.
