So you loaded into R.E.P.O., ready to argue over scrap prices and scream at haunted dishwashers, but all you hear is... silence. Not a peep from your teammates. Either they’ve all mysteriously agreed to ignore you, or your audio output settings are borked. Let’s assume it’s the second one.

Here’s how to fix it if you can’t hear voice chat in R.E.P.O.—before you start wondering if your friends are messing with you.

Step 1: Check Your Output Device (Don’t Trust “Default”)

  • Open R.E.P.O. > Settings > Audio.

  • Find Output Device and don’t leave it on Default. Manually select your headset or speakers.

  • Restart the game. Test the voice chat.

  • If you can now hear screaming, congrats—it’s working.

Step 2: Adjust Windows Sound Settings (Because Windows Loves Chaos)

  • Right-click the speaker icon in your taskbar, hit Sound settings.

  • Under Output, pick the right device (headphones, speakers, etc.).

  • Scroll down and click App volume and device preferences.

  • Find R.E.P.O. in the list and make sure it’s using the correct device.

  • If it was set to something random (like your toaster), change it.

Step 3: In-Game Voice Chat Volume – Maybe You Muted Everyone?

Sometimes R.E.P.O. decides to mute voice chat for you. How kind.

  • Go to Settings > Audio.

  • Find the Voice Chat Volume slider.

  • Turn it all the way up, then adjust to a normal level.

  • Now you should be able to hear your friends complain again.

Step 4: Turn Off Windows Sonic & Spatial Sound (It’s Not Helping)

Virtual surround sound can mess with things. It sounds fancy, but in this case, it’s just causing problems.

  • Right-click the speaker icon again.

  • Hover over Spatial Sound.

  • Set it to Off. Yes, just off. Trust us.

Step 5: Disable Exclusive Audio Mode (Because Sharing is Caring)

Some audio devices don’t like sharing. Rude, right?

  • Go to Sound settings > Advanced sound options.

  • Look for anything about “Allow apps to take exclusive control”.

  • Turn that off. R.E.P.O. deserves equal access.

Final Blurb

R.E.P.O. audio issues are... quirky. Most of the time, if you can’t hear anyone, it’s just a battle between wrong settings, weird Windows defaults, or overprotective sound drivers. Try the fixes above, and you’ll hopefully be back to hearing your friends yell about cursed microwaves in no time. If not? Well, there’s always the classic uninstall-reinstall gamble. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that.
