RimWorld Odyssey Thruster Guide

Written by Alec Blackwood

In RimWorld Odyssey, thrusters are what move your Gravship through space. You’ll need both thrusters and fuel tanks to travel between planets and orbital zones. There are two sizes of thrusters, and they must be powered with Chemfuel.

How Thrusters Work

There are two types of thrusters:

  • Small Thruster

  • Large Thruster

Both are unlocked through research and require Chemfuel to run. You don’t need more fuel per thruster, just enough to reach your target based on distance. The number of thrusters doesn't change how much fuel is burned, only how fast and reliably you move.

It’s better to build more thrusters than fewer. Having extras means your ship is less likely to stall or fail long-distance jumps.

Fuel Tank Requirements

Thrusters don’t work alone. You also need fuel tanks to store Chemfuel. These also come in:

  • Small Fuel Tank

  • Large Fuel Tank

You’ll need to plan for both space and fuel limits. You can place multiple tanks across your ship. Without enough Chemfuel stored, your thrusters won’t fire at all.

Where to Get Materials

All thruster parts and fuel tank components can be found in space and on planets. The exception is Space Rock, which does not spawn on planets. You’ll need to explore or trade for some materials.

Power Needs

Thrusters drain a lot of energy when used. You’ll need solid power sources, especially for long-distance travel. Use Gravlite Panels or Gravcore Power Cells to keep your ship running.

Traditional generators help, but advanced power options are more efficient. Always monitor your ship’s power grid. If it drops during a jump, you could lose progress or control.

Final Blurb

Thrusters are your main engine in RimWorld Odyssey. Build them early, pair them with fuel tanks, and make sure your ship has the power to back them up. With the right setup, you’ll never get stranded again.

FAQ

Q: How many thrusters do I need?

More is better. Thruster count affects reliability, not fuel use.

Q: Do thrusters need constant power?

Only when moving. But they drain a lot, so prepare your grid.

Q: What fuel do thrusters use?

Chemfuel. Stored in fuel tanks placed on your Gravship.

Q: Can I build both small and large thrusters?

Yes. Both types unlock after research. Use whichever fits your layout.

Q: Where can I find parts for thrusters?

On planets, in orbit, and through salvaging. Some rare items are space-only.
