What Level Should You Disassemble Items in RS3?

Disassembling items in RuneScape 3 is one of the key mechanics of the Invention skill. It lets you break down gear and other stuff into useful materials for making perks, gadgets, and gizmos.
Ultimately, you’ll want to wait until at least level 9 to disassemble items. We’ll explain a bit more down below.
What Level Do You Need?
To disassemble anything, you need to unlock Invention, which means:
Level 80 Crafting
Level 80 Smithing
Level 80 Divination
Once you unlock Invention, you'll get access to the Disassemble spell, which works on most gear, tools, and weapons. The only thing you actually need from Invention itself is level 1 to start disassembling.
How Disassemble Works
Drag an item to the Invention icon or right-click and choose “Disassemble”
Some items (like ammo) disassemble in batches
You can disassemble up to 60 items per action
You'll get Invention XP and materials in return
When Should You Disassemble?
You can disassemble most items anytime, but if you’re disassembling augmented gear, wait until it’s level 9 or higher. Why?
Because:
Level 2+ gear gives more materials
Level 4+ gear gives no junk
Level 9+ gear gives quadruple materials
Level 9+ also gives back your gizmos
Level 10+ gives even more XP, but costs more charge
If your gear isn't augmented, just disassemble it anytime—but don’t expect rare components unless it’s something like salvage or high-tier gear.
Extra Tips
Use the Analyse ability to see what materials you’ll get
Augment gear before disassembling to multiply results
Don't use an Equipment Dissolver unless you're okay destroying the item
Some items (like salvage) are best for cheap disassembly and common mats
