Curse Effects & How They Work – V Rising Guide

If you’re getting into spell builds or hybrids, Curse is one of the best tools you can add to your kit. Here’s exactly what Curse does and why it’s worth using.

What Curse Does

  • Marks the target for 3.5 seconds.

  • 40% of any damage they take while marked gets stored.

  • When the effect ends, it deals that stored damage again (up to 500% of your spell power).

  • You can increase the stored damage to 50% with a jewel, letting you reach the max damage cap easier.

In short—Curse lets you double-dip on your own damage. Stack up hits, then watch it all explode at once.

Curse Jewel Options

Here’s what you can add with jewels:

  • More stored damage.

  • Fading snare when the effect ends (slows the enemy down).

  • Reapplies Weaken (lowers their damage output).

  • Spawns a healing wisp to heal you after the curse ends.

  • Optional jewels: Knockback or extended duration (but most players skip these because they interfere with combos).

How to Use Curse

PvE:

  • Mark high-HP enemies or bosses.

  • Stack damage quickly during the 3.5-second window.

  • Time your weapon skills (like Spear Q or Whip E) to land big hits while Curse is active.

PvP:

  • Great for punishing enemies when their counters are down.

  • Best paired with CC setups like freezes or entangles.

  • Mark them, apply your burst, and watch for the big pop at the end.

  • Be careful—it can trigger defensive counters when applied.

Best Combos

  • Spear Q + Curse: Lock them down, mark, and stack burst damage.

  • Freeze + Curse: Freeze the enemy, apply Curse, then unload your best abilities.

  • Team Play: Have a teammate land their CC or combo first. Apply Curse while the target can’t dodge or counter.

Jewel Effect Description
Damage Amplifier Increases stored damage from 40% to 50%.
Fading Snare Applies a slow when Curse ends.
Weaken Reapplication Reapplies weaken at the end of Curse.
Healing Wisp Spawns a healing wisp when Curse ends.
Knockback Knocks enemies back when applied (optional).
Extended Duration Increases Curse duration to 4.5s (optional).

Final Blurb

Curse takes some practice, but once you get the timing down it’s one of the best burst options in the game. Big single-target damage, soft CC, and some healing on top if you jewel it right. Just be smart about when you use it—mistiming it or triggering a defensive counter can waste the whole thing.
