Grass Wonder Build Guide | Uma Musume Pretty Derby

Written by Priya Kapoor

Grass Wonder is a tricky Runner to train because she jumps between Mile, Medium, and Long races in Umamusume: Pretty Derby. If you try to cover everything, she’ll end up with weak stats across the board. To win with her, you need to focus on key race styles for each distance and lean into healing skills to handle her stamina issues.

She’s not bad... just picky.

Stat Priorities

Speed

Target 1000+. This keeps her in the race across all distances. Always train Speed every chance you get.

Stamina

You need 450+ minimum with at least one healing skill. For Long races, go higher (around 600) especially if she’s running Late.

Power

500+ is fine. She can accelerate naturally in Late or Chaser styles. Raise it more if you’re running her as a Leader.

Wit

Hit 400–500. She needs it for skill timing and race control. Wit also helps lower injury risk, which Grass seems weirdly prone to.

Guts

Ignore it unless you’re desperate. Keep it around 300 max.

Best Support Card Layouts

Safe Build for URA

3 Speed, 1 Stamina, 1 Wit, 1 Friend
This lets you hit good Speed numbers while keeping her from burning out. The Friend slot helps bonding and lowers Rest turns.

Long-Game Build

2 Speed, 2 Stamina, 1 Wit, 1 Power
Best for Long or Medium focus. Needs strong support cards and good early bonding to work.

F2P Balanced Build

2 Speed, 2 Wit, 1 Power, 1 Friend
Gives you safer training turns. Less stamina here, so you’ll need to run healing skills like Corner Recovery or Tempo Up.

Training Tips

  • Buy healing (blue) skills that match her race style before each G1

  • Don’t chase all three distances in one run... prioritize Medium or Long first

  • Rest if energy is yellow or lower—Grass gets injured easily

  • Use Recreation and high-Wit events to avoid wasting turns

  • Get rainbow drills ready by Summer Camp or she’ll fall behind

Inheritance Notes

  • Inherit Long Distance A or Medium A depending on your route

  • Add one recovery skill and one Position skill (like Tempo Up or Focus)

  • Avoid Sprint traits... she’s not made for short races

Race Style Options

Grass Wonder works best as a Late Surger in Long and Medium. She has time to build up and gets good recovery value out of blue skills.

In Mile races, switch to Pace Chaser with enough Wit and healing. If there are too many other chasers, Leader is fine… But avoid Front unless you're trolling.

Final Blurb

Grass Wonder demands more effort than most, but she pays off when built right. Lock her into one main distance per run, stack Speed, healing, and Wit, and you’ll finally stop getting knocked out in the Classic series.

Just don’t let her rest too little or she’ll remind you why her name is Grass.

TL;DR

  • Best as a Late Surger for Medium/Long, or Pace Chaser for Mile

  • Stat goals: Speed 1000+, Stamina 450–600+, Wit 400+, Power 500+, Guts 300 max

  • Use healing skills like Corner Recovery or Tempo Up to offset low raw stamina

  • Use 3 Speed, 1 Stamina, 1 Wit, 1 Friend for consistent training

  • Focus on one distance type per run to avoid stat spreading

  • Inherit Medium A or Long A and at least one blue recovery skill

  • Avoid Front style and low-Wit builds; she needs consistency to trigger her passives
