Glowing ore might look like it’s radioactive loot from heaven, but if you're after regular materials like uranium, don’t let the glow fool you.
Glowing ore is a completely different tier, and it does not replace standard ore.
Here’s how it works, how to find and mine it, and what to avoid if you're just trying to fix your ship and not melt your face.
Glowing Ore vs Regular Ore
Glowing ore (like glowing uranium) is a higher-tier version of the standard ore.
You can’t smelt glowing uranium in a regular furnace. You’ll need special smelters just to process it.
If you’re doing a quest, like repairing a ship that asks for 50 uranium, glowing uranium won’t count. It has different item data, different uses, and different crafting recipes.
Where to Find Glowing Ore
You can find glowing ore on random planets. Even if a planet has glowing ore, that doesn’t mean it’s missing the regular stuff.
Look at the resource level from orbit. If it shows [4], that means tier 4 resources spawn there, which includes standard uranium.
You just need to look for the non-glowing variant.
Can You Mine Glowing Ore Right Away?
Not unless you’ve upgraded your extractor.
Glowing ore generally needs tier 3+ extractors to mine, and even then, it takes time and energy cells to harvest each piece.
It’s also worth mentioning the automatic miners are pretty much useless right now unless you're standing nearby. They stop working if you're off-planet, and it takes 10 minutes to pull one single glowing chunk.
Might as well go old school and dig it yourself.

If you’re still doing early or mid-game tasks, no. Glowing ore isn’t a replacement for standard materials.
It’s best saved for:
Late-game crafting
