How Manual Save Works in Clair Obscur: Expedition

Saving your game in Expedition 33 works a little differently than most RPGs. Here’s exactly how saving and loading works.
Can You Manually Save?
There is technically no true manual save button in Expedition 33.
You can’t pause the game and pick "Save" whenever you want. Instead, you have to rely on the autosave system.
Whenever the game autosaves, a small message pops up on the bottom left of the screen saying "Save in progress..."
If you don’t see this message, the game hasn’t saved yet.
How to Force an Autosave (Essentially Manually Saving)
You can trigger an autosave by doing a few different things:
Resting at an Expedition Flag (this also heals your team and refills potions)
Changing a character’s haircut or outfit
Switching a weapon
Equipping or unequipping Pictos and Lumina
Winning a battle
Picking up certain important items
Entering new major locations
Resting at flags is the safest way because it always triggers an autosave — but it will also respawn enemies nearby.
If you force a save by changing equipment or appearance, watch for the save message to confirm it worked. Sometimes it won’t trigger unless you swap something big.
How to Load a Save
To load your last save:
Open the main menu.
Choose Load Previous Saves.
Scroll through the list and pick a file.
Save files are listed by time only, so you might have to guess a little if you want to return to a very specific moment.
Final Blurb
There’s no manual save in Expedition 33, but with a little planning, the autosave system covers you pretty well. Rest at flags when you can, swap equipment when you need a quick save, and always keep an eye out for the "Save in progress..." message.
