How Speed Works in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 (Agility Guide)

Speed in Expedition 33 comes from the Agility stat, but it works a little differently than most turn-based RPGs.
Here’s exactly how speed functions.
What Speed (Agility) Does
Agility directly controls how often a character takes turns in battle. The higher your Agility, the faster your “turn bar” fills up behind the scenes. Characters with higher Agility will act more often compared to slower characters or enemies.
Key effects of Agility:
Increases how frequently a character takes turns.
Gives a small bonus to Defense.
Also contributes slightly to Critical Rate through the Luck stat (which boosts both Crit and Speed).
How Turn Order Is Calculated
Your party and enemies each have an invisible “turn progress bar” that fills up over time. Higher Agility means the bar fills faster. Once full, that character takes a turn.
Example:
A character with 500 Agility might act twice before an enemy with only 200 Agility can take a single turn.
Late-game enemies often have high Agility. If you ignore Speed, enemies will start taking multiple turns between yours.
Agility does NOT guarantee who goes first in battle. Turn order at the start is usually based on who you placed first in the party menu or whether you ambushed the enemy.
How Much Agility Matters
Low Agility: Enemies may get 2 or 3 turns before you can act.
Balanced Agility: You usually get 1 turn for every enemy turn.
High Agility: You can sometimes act multiple times before enemies.
Agility stacking can also prevent enemy groups from out-speeding your party, which becomes critical by Act II and beyond. If you neglect Speed, you will quickly notice enemies taking extra turns.
Bonus: Agility and Weapon Scaling
Some weapons scale with Agility. If a weapon has a B, A, or S rating in Agility scaling, increasing Agility will also raise your Attack Power with that weapon. This makes Agility even more valuable for damage dealers like Sciel and Verso.
Final Blurb
Speed is necessary to control the flow of battle. Keep your Agility up or prepare to watch enemies take double turns while you wait helplessly.
